Paul, I thought this handle pattern is what's generally referred to as "London pattern" ?

That's not the real point of my reply. I think I recognise that wood, & it's not something that grows in Europe or North America (other than in some botanical gardens, maybe!). Looks quite spectacular whatever the handle pattern might be called....

I think you are right with the general definition of "London" pattern. However, it was also direct copy from the Kenyon back saws, although the handle size was scaled up a touch ( the work photocopier is not quite the useless piece of excrement I once thought it to be) and you do recognise the timber (Tulip Oak) . You may, or may not, remember that was the fourth handle for that particular saw following a spectacular number of failures with the Forest Red Gum predecessors.
