In today's mass produced world this sort of skill is only likely to survive in the hands of a very small number of craftsman. I'm not against mass produced, it has given good quality tools to the masses at affordable prices. But if slick videos like this is how these craftsman need to promote their products so they can feed their kids then that's fine by me. If they can make a few dollars from youtube then that's fine as well.
I had heard of Damascus steel but did not know detail of it until today. Spent 2 hours watching youtube this morning after reading the above post. I appreciate the opportunity to view this type of craft on youtube and learn about it.
