Hello TS I will add a few to my original order
-Totals-
3@ 50 x 4 x 60
2@ 50 x 4 x 100
3@ 50 x 6 x 150
1@ 50 x 6 x 200
------------------------
which should equal 9 chunks of tool steel.
A few questions-
*At this point are the prices expected to be fairly accurate, or will they differ now the rest of the sheets will be taken up with other items?
*Ive got to shape a profile into few of them so as they cut concaves into the backs of cricket bats along the grain.
How easily will this Tool steel be to cut into? I was planning on removing the bulk of the material for the camber shape with a 5" grinder(all without drawing the temper - From memory I was told I was a pretty safe tool steel in this regard), then accurately grinding a bevel around the formed radius (on some kind of jig I'm yet to devise) and then hone it sharp on my scheppach wet stone grinder.

BrianLara400 I have updated your order.
M2 is a good steel for grinding. You can blue it and not draw the temper, however, its my view that if you are grinding with method and meticulously, you should not be bluing it in the first place.
Any major reshaping will take time, and patience.

Group Decision Needed
I need those participating in this batch order to make a choice. Simple saying "What ever the group decides is not, helpful" and you could end up with something you are not happy with.
OK - I have been talking to Bohler our steel supplier for the last month trying to source M2. Bohler is unable to supply 6.x mm thick M2, as they do not have any in stock. The 4.x mm is not a problem.
Bohler in Austria refuses to sell single sheets to Bohler Australia, they want a minimum order of 10 tons per specific sheet size. Our only options are:
OPTION 1
We buy a 7 mm sheet then we have it is sent to a wash grinder, John at Rippon says that they specialize in ruff bulk removing of material for industry. They can take the 7 mm sheet down to 6.2 mm, then we processed as normal. This approach will cost more as we will need to pay for the extra 1 mm of steel and we will need to pay the wash grinder as well. Exactly how much more I do not know at this point.
OPTION 2
We buy a 5.5 mm sheet and end up with 5.4 mm thick blades. The problem with this solution is that they will not fit the HNT Gordon planes. However 5.4 mm is still a thick blade and its about the thickness used by Hock, Sauer & Steiner, Philip Marcou, and Holtey.
What option would people prefer? How many people are getting these blades to fit their HNT Gordon planes?

Hi TS,
I would prefer 5.4mm, although would still keep same order if group decides on 6mm.
Cheers

TS,
Hi. I would prefer 5.4mm. I'm also happy to convert all my blades to 4mm if required.

Hi Helmut,
I would prefer Option 2, the 5.5 mm sheet.
These blades are for custom made planes.
Thanks for your time & effort.

If I had any HNT planes I guess I could afford to buy Terry's blades too, so it makes no difference to me at all. But I suspect there are a few people looking use these for existing HNT planes.
For my own I'm happy with the 5.5mm sheet option."Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so."

G'day Helmut,
If possible, I would like to drop my order for 2 pieces of 50 x 6 x 100 blades as they were intended for my HNT planes. However, if this is not possible, then I'll take option 2.
I apologise for the inconvenience.
Again, thank you for the effort.

Mine are for custom made planes, so Option 2 is fine for me.
