If RayG has the technical capacity and can supply the same quality finish then I would be very happy to support his offer.

Hi All,
I realise this is not a particularily definitive indication of the surface finish we are getting off the surface grinder, but it's a bit of a guide.
Helmut is going to send me some sample parts for a proper assessment.
This is a Hock Blade that was sitting in a drawer (for an unfinished project) , the finish is as supplied by Ron Hock, I should add that these are excellent blades, the finish as supplied from Ron, is not a critisism of his overall excellent quality.
The original blade
After surface grinding.
And the other side
The forum blades will be ground with a finer wheel, ( most likely 60) I think, if I remember correctly Josh took 0.05mm off either side.
I'll post some more pictures when TS sends the samples for assessment.
Regards
Ray

I'm happy to commission RayG's services for this batch order.
If I remember correctly, DJ Timber grounded the primary bevel for the 1st Stanley Replacement Plane Blade Batch Order and the quality was extremely good.
Being a fellow woodworker who has contributed much to this forum, RayG knows the quality we are after. I am confident, he won't offer his services if he cannot deliver.
Cheers,
Gunn

If a forum member of Ray's standing offers to do one of the production processes to a similar or better quality and for less cost than the commercial alternatives then that's better than good enough for me.
My preference is always to use tools that have some meaning for me, like knowing (albeit through the forum) the maker(s), or the previous owner(s), or the group-buy organiser....Stay sharp and stay safe!

Its times to start collecting funds to get the ball rolling on the following orders:
- Paring Chisels
- Firmer Chisels
- Turning Chisels & Scrapers
- Plane Blades for Wooden Handplanes
Now their are 57 members participating across all five orders. Totaling over 406 items. To see a complete list of what you have ordered please see the attached spreadsheet in PDF format I will by the end of this day send out a PM, to everyone of the 57 participants informing them, of what they have ordered, and how much they owe. and into what account they need to transfer the funds into and by what date.
Here is the pdf.

I did send a PM but seeing as most are going public I will say here I am happy to let Ray
grind the blades.
It will be a nice change to get a blade I do not have to spend an hour or so licking into shape.

John

Number of blades
Hi Helmut,
I have noticed that in the final batch order for wooden plane blades (PDF) the number of my blades has gone from 3 to 6.
The original order comprised the following blades.
2 x (50mm x 6mm x 100mm)
1 x (40mm x 4mm x 100mm)
Maybe it is a typo or someone's blades have been put against my name.
If this is extra plate I would be happy to order either firmer or paring chisels in 6, 12 and 25mm (with handles)
Regards,
Zvon

Shoulder Planes?
Hi Thumbsucker,
Having reviewed the FINAL Batch Order.PDF to organise the money transfer, I have noticed that the shoulder planes aren't listed. That is the SP12 SP19 SP 25 and SP32's. My order was for a 19, 25 and a 32.
There was only 3 of us interested at the time. You, me and HarryR. So were these cancelled, overlooked or left off the FINAL Batch Order.pdf for the sake of clarity of the spreadsheet? I'm not sure if I've missed some information along the way. I had a look at the laser cutting diagram to see if I could locate them, but to the untrained eye I really couldn't tell if they were there or not.
I thought I should clear this up before transferring any funds. I'm happy to keep the order of the 3 shoulder plane blades if they are still coming, but if they have been scrapped it is not the end of the world.
Thanks so far
AndyT
I have quoted the old ordersheet from Nov 2010 below...

Hi Andy
I decided to drop them officially.
- I was not able to get exact dimensions for the HNT Gordon style.
- Due to their shape they would waste lots of steel.
- There was not allot of demand for them.
However, we will have odd shapes left from the 4.5 mm sheet. I have access to a milling machine, and metal bandsaw. I will be using some of the scrap to make some custom shoulder plane blades for myself. If you really want them I can do the same for you.
But I will need to know, the width, and length of the head, and the overall.
length and if you need anything else that is special.

Hi Helmut,
I have already sent a PM to you and I confirm again that I am happy for RayG to finish the blades.
However I have looked at the spread sheet and it does not match my original order in post #65 which was for 2 blades 150x50x6mm.
I would be happy to accept the blades shown on the spreadsheet 100x50x6mm as that is presumably what is now laid out to cut. Will you please confirm that the spreadsheet order for the 100mm long blades is what I will receive please.
Regards
Pete L

Shoulder Plane Blades
Thumbsucker,
Thanks for the offer to make up the shoulder plane blades, but at this stage count me out. I don't expect to have as much time on my hands as I had previously thought and so will be unable to make as much use of them as I'd hoped.
I will organise the funds for the rest of the blades.
Cheers
Andy T
