Chris, I think you were just unlucky and the Cypress was a bit damp - being very dense & resinous it takes a long time to equilibrate. As someone already said, it has been used a lot for framing & floorboards and doesn't have a reputation for eating nails the way some other species do. Most softwoods and plenty of hardwood species seem to be ok when properly dry, but whatever you use, I think it's still a good idea to seal the contacting surfaces with shellac or oil and wax them for extra insurance....

It came out of my house reno which was done about 20 years ago and had been in place as window sills and frames for 20 years before that but assumption does not make fact. I am going to change the holders for another timber and I think I will line that with HDPE where it contacts the blades. It really is a stain more than corrosion and is fairly easy to get off just the fact that it happens annoys me.
