I won't lie, I considered it.
I mean, think about what you pay for a Lie Nielsen chisel, which is just an emulation of tools from the same era of quality as a Titan. $500 for a set of unused chisels, particularly with collector value, is within the realm of reasonable in my opinion.
That said, I agree that the middle chisel is either a replacement from a different time when Titan made shorter chisels, or has had its metal replaced with something used. The handle looks too new for it to have been used enough to grind an inch off of the blade. Ultimately that was the only thing keeping them out of my hands.
Cheers,
Luke

Blade length doesn't tell you much except it might have been someones favourite chisel. The ways to tell a "ring in" in a set when all the handles are the same profile is firstly the height of the decal. Boxed sets always had matching handles with equal height decals looking very neat and even through the window of the box when the chisels are snug in their saddles and blade slots. Another clue. Do the blade marks match? With the gold decal they should all be small ovals or "Titan Guaranteed". Lastly, are the blade marks the same height. OK Luke I'm a Titan nut but I'm not flogging these. A good Titan nut would not be flogging them. Irrespective of the veracity of this offering I must defend the lad for having a go. However, as you said, very tempting on first sight and the box is very good. You don't often score unbroken cellophane these days. Good luck to whoever he is. A good box is probably knocking on the door of $200 and a set of six good collector grade (Mint/Fine) 136's is about $250 or so (eBay), so what he is asking is sort of reasonable. I'd do $200 on a good box but then again, I'm a Titan nut.

Who is the Titan Chisel nut?
I'd post a link but can't figure out how on the iPad to copy the address from the eBay app.
Having a look at the photos I don't necessarily agree the handle is shorter and not just sitting lower in the pack. I'm pretty certain that the decal is further down the handle than all the rest.
He has a make an offer option..... Offer him $200. Value of the box and chisel for free…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

Think these would have been a better buy for a little over $150.

...looking at the detail photos I think the 4th is not an original from this set, but new nevertheless. It is shorter, decal is in a different position. Also, it looks like the 3rd (from the left) has been struck although there is no evidence on the tip of the blade. A nice collectable but not a perfect set. Could also have been broken up in the store; I have bought things and had them robbed from a box set, to be replaced later when new stock comes in. Happened only a few weeks ago.
