Record Catalogue
Here is a Record catalogue: https://archive.org/details/RecordPlanesCatalogue
It was acquired without its cover so the date of publication is not certain. I did a bit of a search and thought it might be a No. 14 from 1935. It ticks some of the (No. 14) boxes but not others. Any help on pinning a date on this catalogue would be appreciated. Thanks again to Mark for making this available.
Regards,
Paul

Enjoy!

With my particular focus on Simonds saws this one is of particular interest. I am wondering if I should contact Mark to see if I have any additional information for him. His site is quite comprehensive in itself and has another very useful link to WK Fine Tools as well as Bruce Welch's original Simonds site.
One catch that Mark alludes to is that some catalogues do not show the complete range. For example the 1904 catalogue he has scanned only has a single hand saw coupled with a reference to ask for a separate publication for the full range.
A friend purchased the 1903 catalogue and his version only had a reference to Simonds' hand saws whereas my 1903 edition shows the whole range.

Hi Paul,
I'm sure Mark would welcome your collaboration especially with your complete 1903 Simonds catalogue. If you have the time and a scanner...................This is what I did with the few catalogues I have. Scanned the documents, saved the files to a USB and sent them to Mark. He has a PDF maker with which he created the PDFs and then posted links so the catalogues are available to all.
If you don't have a scanner or the time, I'm willing to scan your 1903 catalogue. Pop it in a trackable post-bag and send it to me. I'll scan it and send it back to you likewise.
Regards,
Paul

A more contemporary catalogue:

This catalogue is just over 23MB. Who hasn't owned an Eclipse honing guide?
Many thanks to Mark in the US for this catalogue.

Paul
I will contact Mark Stansbury initially to see where I can add to his information as appropriate. My Simonds focus is quite restricted, being for the handsaw years 1900 - 1926, whereas his research is for the entire period.
On the subject of scaning my own machine is close to useless and quite inconsistent with the results: very disappointing really. Additionally, I am not sure how to scan (or photocopy for that matter) books that will not fold flat. I always seem to end up with distortion from the curvature of the pages.
Any how I will see Mark's response in the first instance.
Thanks again for posting.

Hello Tool Enthusiasts,
Mark has just posted a 1907 publication, to his webspace, detailing the history of the Simonds Manufacturing Company from 1832 to 1907 (75 years).
I offer the link here but all thanks to Mark for sharing this rare publication:
https://archive.org/details/SimondsSeventyFiveYears
The PDF file is 36MB.

Melhuish Catalogue (1905)
Mark in the US has posted another catalogue to his site. This time, a 1905 Melhuish tool catalogue. From my hasty research, Melhuish appears to be a tool dealer rather than a tool manufacturer. As such, the catalogue contains tools of the time from Stanley, Preston and Disston (there are probably others, I've only had a quick look).
The file is about 230MB so it will take a minute or so to download.

As always, many thanks to Mark for scanning and making these catalogues available to all.

1960 Stormont Catalogue and Tyzack Saw Catalogue
Mark has made available a few more catalogues:
https://archive.org/details/TyzackSawCatalogue
https://archive.org/details/Stormont...dCatalogue1960
https://archive.org/details/StormontArcherPriceList1960
I couldn't find a date on the Tyzack catalogue but it looks like an early 1970's publication.

It's worth noting that archive.org that hosts many old documents including most of the links above, now has a tool catalog index!
Check out many more catalogs (and catalogues) here:

1928 5th edition of Concerning Handsaws
Here's a link to the 5th edition of Concerning Handsaws published/produced by Spear and Jackson in 1928. I thought Concerning Handsaws was a more contemporary publication perhaps from the 1950's or 60's. The hunt is on for an earlier version!

If you have any tool catalogues that you'd be willing to share, please let me know. I can help with scanning and submit the scans to Mark, the "owner" of the International Tool Catalogue Library for inclusion in this resource. On a personal note, I'd really like to see some more S&J catalogues, perhaps from the 1900's. What was S&J's premium saw before the introduction of vanadium into their saw plate steel and the birth of the 171a? The answers are out there.

Thanks Paul
There was some interesting information there pertinent to the Atkins 400 thread:
Atkins Four Hundred. "The Finest on Earth?"
and I took the liberty of quoting a few passages and pages as S & J's No171A was a rival saw.
