Thread: From A Tool Sale

Thats it???? Thats all the tools on sale.

Nice brace, nice egg beater and yes it does beat eggs I used an old mixer blade.

Ok Pac-man over to you.

There were great bargains where you could pick up a tool for $1.00. Some wrenches were sold for $5.00.

From the high winds and rain that we got yesterday we found driving through some suburbs(most) that had fallen branches and trees. After dropping off two of the friends Mario and I were heading towards his house and I suggested that we take a look at some logs that had fallen down.

From a distance these did not seem too big, but I was wrong.

About 2 meters long.


My guess is that these would have been cut down about week ago.

Looks like a small haul???
Were there lots of people there selling?
And what about buying?
The weekend weather wouldn't have helped the turn out??

A piece of rope and a couple of skateboards would have got that tiny little piece home.

Then you could have the have the joy of fighting over who gets how much of it.

A tad tardy from the tool sale:

Almost a full 1/2 set of "hollers and rounds" by the same maker Gleave of Manchester. 2,4,6,8,10 and 18 pairs The 14 and 16 hollers went to a fiery grave in the previous owners cabinet making shop.

And the art of toolhando provided a very sad looking 7 /16 berg which should cleanup nicely.

Paul didn't know you were into planes also must show you the few I have am missing two blades tho and none have been tidied up at all yet.

Ficus? Looks a bit like erythrina (coral tree) to me. Sh.t timber if it is. Quite literally it smells like excrement when cut. Had a load delivered as mulch once. I was looking for the dogsh.. but then realised the smell came from the mulch. If it is ficus then it might be usable but i think it would still be quite heavy when still full of water.

Not the most impressive of hauls Christos but it's better than mine. A new 8000 shapton stone and a new ibc no4 iron. The only 2nd hand item was a rosewood tote for a 4 1/2 and up. I still had cash burning a hole in my pocket at the end of the day. This shouldn't be seen as a criticism of what was on offer however. All the traders, both professional and amateur had fine arrays of stuff. It was only self discipline and the thought of the 60 or so saws back home that stopped me from picking up two nice open handled saws that walked past and looked at a couple of times.

Yes, it was a good day and it was great to catch up with old friends again, including you Christos.

Well done TTTG. Hope there is another next year.

I really enjoyed the Trad group sale it was well run and attended and lots of good gear . i only went as it was convenient on the sunday run to visit my elderly mother and put $50 in my pocket just in case . missed out on a few handy little items and was getting ready to leave , one gent had some nice planes for very reasonable prices, didnt really need any more myself however thought of a mate who is interested in starting woodworking , i had steered him away from a bunnies plane. By 11am the gents table was now nearly depleted , with a lone stanley no4 sitting there for the princely sum of $35,looked original condition so it came home with me. Anyway on closer look , stripping down, searching stanley plane dating site, it is a type13 ,1925/28 made in USA,all original parts, no rust, Flatten back of blade,hone through to diamond paste, it takes a wispy shaving and is a pleasure to use. I would love to know where its been for the last 90 odd years and whose hands its passed through. part of the mystery i guess. I dont think it would suit my mate. I know some of those faces and in the interests of public safety and good taste I wouldn't show them either...

That looked like Fred's stand. He's quite a collector and doesn't collect rubbish. I would expect any plane you buy from him would be a good one.

Gday Virg, in the interests of accuracy my beaut little 4 was purchased from the gent in the hat opposite the TTG desk near the door .He ventured the opinion that wood working is the fastest growing hobby in the world, wow, might , have to get a high speed connection just to get on the site soon.It was great to see so many younger people, fathers and sons,woodworking women,amongst us greyies. The L.N.bloke seemed to be having a good sales day also. look forward to the next one, still might be able to find a plane for my mate, Cheers rossco
