Old saw - type purpose or one of?
Hi All.
Saw this odd old saw, at the base in the picture. I do not recognize the type.
comments, Has plane like tote mounted close to the tooth line, a nib and the photo suggested the toothing is coarser at the start.
If anyone has seen a saw like this before does the style have a name and a purpose?

Its been made by a past owner from an old bit of saw blade. Most likely used as a floorboard saw.
Stanley Tools - FatMax(R) Floorboard Saw 300mm (12in) | eBay
Used by plumbers and electricians for getting at stuff under the floorboards.

It certainly looks user- made, as John suggests, by someone who needed a short saw. Having coarse teeth at the toe does suggest it was meant to work its way into a cut from a flat surface, though "flooring" saws that are intended to do just that have a rounded toe to assist getting it through the board. Looks like the handle is part of the original handle from the donor saw, and the way it appears to be attached with multiple rivets smacks of home-brewing.
I've not seen anything like it in any saw catalogue. There were short saws with open "pistol" handles like that back in the day, but the handle was turned the other way.
Unless someone who has seen similar saws in use chips in, I think this one will most likely remain a curiosity....
Cheers,IW

Flooring saw, that is a dang good suggestion.
With a hang on the handle like that, the saw would always point to the floor.
