    Default Unidentified Skewed Rebate Plane

    Hi all
Can anyone help me identify perhaps a maker/model of this plane I have acquired?
It appears to be a skewed rebate plane. But I could be wrong........

I have cleaned it up, all parts move and function, but I have no cutters.
    Thanks for your help

    If it's skewed it's a #46.
I have one c/w a full set of blades. You can get a set of blades from one of the second hand dealers in Aus. I can't remember which one I have seen them in but possibly here.
Just had a look, Stuart does have the blades.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

As NC has said, it looks like a Stanley 46. If memory serves, most 46's had a guard plate between the fence and the body that supported the wider blades. Yours has the fence but I can't see the sliding guard plate. Without this support, you may have some chatter or vibration issues with the wider blades when you get them. The sliding guard plate provides horizontal support on the timber to prevent the blades from dipping at the left.
Nice plane - should clean up quite well.

    PS:
Here is a picture from Hans Brunner's website that might help explain what I was referring to:

    Hi all
Thanks for the quick responses, it does look like its a Stanley 46, missing the 2nd skate. Not sure I will invest in a set of cutters just yet, I also have a Record 405 to play with, will see how my limited skills go with that first.
    Thanks for your help

The early versions of the #46 did not have the second runner/guard, only a fence.

    Indeed,
But they looked something like this if Han's website is a guide - and pedrogb's sample is somewhat different.

    Hi Frank

Thanks for that link - that clarifies things. I was working from memory having lost that very link in a computer crash. I was looking for it when I saw your post. I knew the early models were different ... however the difference was that they did not have a fence. They did have the guard. Pedros plane has the fence but not the guard. Something is not right, obviously.

    Hi all
Once again thanks for the info, I think it is clear it is an old Stanley 46 with the 2nd guard/skate missing. It has been roughly cleaned up and will go on a shelf till I get around to sourcing some parts.
Apologies if the photos don't give enough detail for analysis (my wife has just criticised my photographical skills - "I could do better" -but if I let her in the shed, she may see what I have in there.....)
    Thanks
