    Default Uniklamps for box making

    Hello everyone
I make quite a few boxes (boxmaking) and I have finally seen theclight and purchased some Bessey K body Parallel clamps.
They are quite expensive at around $75 and for me I love the quality and strength of them but for me box making doesnt require lots of pressure.
What's are people's opinion on the Uniklamp at half the price means more glue ups at the same time.
    Regards Tony

I've got a couple of Uniklamps. They would be fine for boxes. Much lighter and easier to handle, especially on more delicate boxes.
I also have a selection of Duoklamps that are my go to clamp most of the time. They are great. Would be great for box making.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

The amount of clamping force is wildly overrated by manufacturers of clamps. Every time a new clamp comes out it notes that the forces are higher than before or the opposition. If you max out clamping forces, what you are likely to do is starve a joint of glue!

I often use blue tape to clamp parts together. It is stretchy and enough force if the joint fits reasonably well to begin with. It is only ill-fitting joinery that relies on forcing parts together with clamps generating high forces.

I have a few of the Uniklamps and quite like them: they remain square, they are light and easily transported and positioned, and they have enough force to clamp.

    Regards from Perth

When it comes to clamps -pushing till breaking point is kinda pointless (the glue won't hold) hAVE BENT/ BROKEN F clamps/ pipe clamps etc. Realy if it NEEDS this kind of force -well nothing is going to keep it there. baisicly NO glue is THAT good. A bit of a squeese well possibly-But if you really have to crank it up -you know within yourself that it's never going to be the solution. Best make bits fit better.

While I have used clamps in box making before, I have found that scotch tape works quite well with mitered corners. Too much pressure with clamps could also cause alignment issues.

In the last box I used blue tape to start with and went over with the scotch tape several times around maintaining firm tension.
