Default How to unlock a #65 mouth

    Hi guys,

I recently received a kind of rusty #65 with a blocked mouth.

I took it from the electrolysis yesterday, and really looks nicer than that. The mouth is very difficult to put in place, and is impossible to move with the lever. There is no dirt, I sanded and oiled the contact surface, but... no way.
Should I file the sides of the moving part, or am I missing something?

    Thanks in advance!

Remove the knob and lever. The knob is all that is holding the plate in the sole. No doubt there is grit or corrosion gluing the plate to the sole. You may be able to dislodge it with a couple of gentle taps. Otherwise use penetrating oil to loosen any rust. Then tap off.

    Clean the channels, refit.

    Regards from Perth

    Hi Dereck,

I removed the knob and lever, and gently plied the plate with a screwdriver to get it.
    That worked, thanks.
I cleaned thoroughly the sole and channels, but it's still difficult to fit the plate back in. And once in place, I just can't get it to slide.
Maybe did I get a #65 with parts from several ones. It looks like I will have to file the plate to fit the channels...

I would be a bit concerned taking a file to it as you do not want to take off too much metal. If you must remove any then do so on a fine oilstone and do it carefully. It may only be a rough edge that needs smoothing. I have used this method on moving parts before.
