Yup, remember those days very well. Funnily enough, I don't really miss them all that much.
My reaction to that picture is the same reaction I get when I see someone driving a convertible on a sunny day with the top up / on. It's a crime which should be punishable by instant confiscation of the abused product.
If you're not going to take care of your toys, you don't deserve them.

If I posted a photo of my LA block, Rob would probably cry. It's definitely a user

Hi Derek, I'm a newb to this site - but not so new when it comes to planes and wood and stuff. I really appreciated your review on the new LV block planes - I want one.
It was interesting to note your comment on the A2 blades on low angled planes as I have experienced the same problem on a new Lie-Nielsen low angle jack when planing hard Marri. Have you had experience with Academy blades? I have read before that they are outstanding.
Finally, its fantastic to see LV come up with a plane that looks as great as it does. I admire the innovation of LV but have thought some of their aesthetics have been a little wanting. This plane certainly puts that to rest.
Cheers

Hi Phil
LV will be bringing out O1 blades for these planes in the near future. They should be just the ticket.
I have not used the HSS Academy blades. I doubt that there is one to fit these planes (I think that they only fit Stanley planes).
I am a little wary of very hard steel, simply because it requires more effort to hone. It is a double-edged sword. I'd rather touch up a blade more often and have a really good edge more of he time.
Regards from Perth
Derek
