That's twice I've missed important tool buying dates. Few weeks back I just bought the cast iron ones

When I was 18 my mom gave me $1000 to spend on what I wanted as a graduation present. I spent most of it on a bunch of Ashley Ilse carving chisels from Lee Valley. Few months later they were discontinuing the selling of Ashley Ilse and sent me a flyer advertising 40% off all Ashley Isles chisels

Ah bugger it I'll try to order one anyways - anyone want to buy an unused cast iron edge trimming plane

I have one on order - at least it won't go rusty from under use

Only 300 will be made - don't think they'll last long. I'm guessing you'll see a few on ebay very shortly demanding double the price.

I ordered one last night. It should ship around 14/09. It will be my first Veritas plane.

Good one to get you going that's for sure. Just checked and it looks like I'll be seeing one in a few weeks.

Just got my shipping notice - if I see any suspicious characters around the Post depot, I'm calling the Police to pick up the pieces

There is real marketing genius in the random allocation of serial numbers for these collectors' planes.
Everyone has a chance at getting a "magic" number like 001, or 300.
As well as that, it would seem that the bronze plane will be dicontinued, leaving only the ductile cast iron version.
If this is correct, then the bronzes will become sought after as collectables as well.
I wonder what else is waiting in the wings at Lee Valley?
Sounds like the marketing and the design departments have been at the red cordial again.

Mine arrived here yesterday, after some snoop at Customs opened the box & stuck a fist full of pamphlets in.

    OOOHH - SHINY!

And it comes in an embroidered black velvet bag.

I have a definite feeling that it is going to be a regular product, the 1-to-300 stamp being just the first run and it looks like its just ink, not an etch/engrave/imprint.

    I got 140.

    Not so sure of that.
from a different forum Rob Lee writes:

There's no doubt it will sell out soon - there are fewer than 100 left...

Another 72 shipped yesterday - so there are now 122 in the wild...

    Cheers -

    Rob

and in answer to the fate of the bronze model of this plane:

We do know that #1 has shipped already though... and we did run enough bronze castings to keep us for a year or two before we modified the mold...

But yes - we will discontinue the Bronze plane (probably next fall).

So the bronze model may become a collectors' item as well.

    Interesting times at Veritas.

Default Well guess what showed up today!

I think I've just become a tool collector Number 259/300. Was hoping for a lower number as I think I got in pretty early but oh well it'll have to do. Like any collector I'll even keep the box it came in

    Gawd, you're all at it.

It would be nice to have the readies to splash on one but I'm saving up for entry fee into the Wood show . Nah, seriously, I couldn't justify the extra for the SS version when there are so many other things I need/want. It sure looks nice though!
