Veritas - new steel for plane irons
I've just read Chris Schwarz's blog on the new steel being tested by Veritas. Apparently it's easier to sharpen than most others. Was wondering if Derek had been given any to try?
Cheers,
Jim

Hi Jim
Yes, I've been using it for perhaps a year, and mentioned this here about a month ago. The PV-lll steel has been discussed on other forums for some months. It has not been a secret.
Having spent some time testing it, I can support the information from Rob Lee that it hones as easily as A2 yet holds an edge about twice as long - and it can do so with edges down to 15 degrees (where A2 can - not happened to me, however - chip out if under 30 degrees).
Regards from Perth

Thanks Derek. I'm behind the times as usual.
Sounds excellent. Perhaps all those oilstones are going to be dusted off now.
Cheers,
Jim
