Graham is correct ,that if the door is left open.
I be on drying duties, luckily I had a cunning plan involving the other end of the container and a lovely four inch grinder.
Thus if it's raining ,I can access my creative zone through a popes hole(door).
Via the rest of the house.
Sun Tzu would be know doubt pleased.
Graham was it seems the only one who also noticed my bastardised Disston.Or possibly everyone was just being polite and not commenting on the poor bastard.
But funnily enough ,it's one I quite often reach for, plus it's one of the sharpest.
You were right Graham ,it was cut down before I owned it.
O dear Paul ,I've just realised your issue and I'm sorry.
You have quite a short one don't you.?
20 foot is not really cutting it is it, maybe see if someone wouldn't mind you getting a forty footer.
So yes ,I think you may need to take my fine example and run with it.The door covering I'm talking about.[emoji12]
My other door I try to remember to post a pic next weekend ,it plays homage to my heavy metal collection. It gets quite a hammering from time to time.
Um ,regarding ID ing the saws ,let's see who can guess what I've got. ?
I will verify next weekend when I'm back praying at my shine.
And if you think your really up to it type and date for the saw sets??.

Paul you really did shine some light on derailment attempt there.[emoji41]

    Cheers Matt

    Matt,

(am not trying to pinch your thread) but as a suggestion to hep maximise saw storage and also be able to display, you could try a pair of timbers with a series of saw cuts that the saws can sit in.

Some time ago, I made some free standing double sided saw display stands, which worked out okay.

    Graham.

    Graham.
You can't just waltz in on my thread.
show up with a fantastic idea and know hint of sarcasm.
Shown with fantastic clean rust free looking saws.
    And pretend to be apologetic.
It's just not the done thing.

That looks fantastic and the saws well there goes my next six moths of weekends trying to catch up to that gorgeous collection.[emoji12]

Ooooh. I am really warming to this thread. Firstly, and let's not forget it, the display on the daw (where did that come from. SWMBO sanctioned a second glass of wine and it may be having an adverse effect on my spelling) make that "door" is a really good idea and a classic use of space. I think the saws will have to be firmly secured by some device that is the sawing equivalent of a sports bra or a jock strap. Does anyone wear those anymore? (Rhetorical question. No need to answer. I meant the JS. If you wear a SB you don't have to own up here, even if you can physiologically justify it).

Just on the issue of size, SWMBO was offered the prospect of a big one but was a little daunted by the thought. Actually that was for her studio, not my cave but big ones were still knocked on the head at the design stage. And yes, I am traumatised by the event.

Thanks pmcgee for picking up on the hand embellishments. I wasn't sure I could rely on you seeing the thread, but knew that if you did not much would escape your eagle eye. I was reluctant to mention the point again in case I was accused of some sort of bad PC.

Graham's display is particularly appealing even if it is a blatant attempt to outdo the OP (a difficult task under the circumstances). The reason it is particularly appealing is the first saw in the second picture. It looks remarkably like a Simonds docking saw from the later years to my inexperienced eye.

    Regards
    Paul

    Edit:

The Simonds Docking saw is now ( ) the first saw in the first picture. Can the pictures reverse themselves? Perhaps it was the wine. Anyhow the one with the perforated malleable iron handle. 30" long and 4.5ppi crosscut.

This would be my self portrait now if I was ever a painter.
After Grahams fine example of saw storage.
Look at his poor face and his blatant disregard for his saws now.

    Saw collectors are all angels.

Is that her saw at the foot and a coffin smoother? Perhaps that is the source of the "coffin" smoother and not the shape. Where are those damned rails when you need them? And how do you spell melancholy again? Melencoliah sounds more like something with which Sebrina may have suffered.

    OK you lot ...

    i'm only sort of impressed.

    BUT

How do you tell which is rip, which is cross cut -- without checking the teeth, which you will allow takes some knowledge.

How do you ask someone to "go get the ... saw?"

at lest with my "collection" there is some difference in the colour of the handles
    regards from Alberta, Canada

It'll be right when he paints the rip saw handles red (for rip of course) and the crosscuts cream (for crosscut ) and then Sally gets hold of the sawplates and enhances them in the style of Constable. So they will ultimately be very identifiable. "Grab me the Constable with the red handle" will be a familiar cry.

    To Paul from Perth,

I was lucky to pick up the S&J saw a few years ago at the Murray Bridge swap meet for $15, the only thing I had to do was refinish the handle, the blade needed just a light steel wool rub down.
