    Default Waterstones

It's silly question time. I bought a combination waterstone (King brand) a while back (KD1000/S6000) and have finally got around to putting it to use. It has a thicker dark brown layer and a thinner light tan layer. Here's the silly question part; which is which? There is writing on the stone but that doesn't help me much because I don't read Japanese. The thinner light tan layer feels smoother to my touch but I'd like to know for certain. Also, what do the KD and S stand for? Thanks for any info.

    Pete.

ok then the KD is the 1000 and the S is the 6000 oh wait I'd say the 6000 is the lighter coloured one.

Brown is #1,000, tan is #6,000.

K prolly means 'King', D means deluxe/#1,000, S is the standard tag for the #6,000 stones. Usually there is a number after the letter that tells the size of the stone if you go for a single grit stone.

Current name for this stone is 'KDS', which you might find, is on the thing somewhere.

(As seen in the current King cattledog, Japanese only. )
