What's a fair price for a Stanley #130 block plane?
As the title says...
I dropped ol' faithful for the 2nd time in as many years. The first time it cracked through both sides of the front mouth, losing the knob. Which was no big deal for me... it's a worker and it's the other, bull-nosed end that I use. (Got other planes to use as 'other planes.'
)
Today, I dropped it again... and broke the rod that engaged the lever cap on the damaged end. Again... not really a big deal BUT it's becoming a tad awkward to hold for long periods.
So I'm looking at replacing her, but would like to know what price range to expect.
(Actually, I'd *love* a #97... but something tells me I'm dreaming there.

Perfect! I hadn't realised they were so cheap. With my history - and that price range - perhaps I should look at buying two?

This is a plane that crops up regularly on E-bay, I've never had a hankering for one but around $50 should get you a user in good nick if you're willing to wait. Currently there is one mis-labelled "0310" that is ending Friday but I reckon it's a no-name Record copy as the knob has a screw through it. There is also a Record 0130 but with a price tag of >$100. And a 131, but the seller wants $300 for it

I've just seen the little WoodRiver plane posted by NCArcher; that's got to be the closest to a 97 you'll find.
If you think it's too presentable for your bench then send it to me for a couple of months; I'll soon knock the pretty out of it for you!Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.
