    Default Wood chisel makers mark

    Hi all
This is my first time of posting a message.
So I hope I'm on the right page.
I found a chisel in amongst some old tools there is no name on it only a engraving of a bird in flight on the steel.
I hope someone can help to identify it.

    Chris.

    Hi Chris, welcome
Without an image it is a little hard to say but I assume as a new member you've been blocked from posting images.

It will take some trawling but you may well find your mark here http://www.alte-beitel.de/marken_allg.html

It's worth a look even if you don't find your guy.

    Cheers

Slack, Sellars & Co use a swift ... but I can only remember seeing it on saws.

Yeah I thought the same, Paul. It says 'tools of all kinds' in their spiel you've put up though.

Ok, thanks Toby. I'm assuming these are the same OPs ?

I've never seen that mark. It's very cool but I'm out. Someone will know for sure. The line's out, baited with a seagull, now we just have to wait.

    A possible hit...

    could it be August Lütters

or maybe Dorken & Birkenbell more info here... Dörken & Birkenbeil - Dörbiwerk

This image is from Wolfgang Jordan's great site http://www.holzwerken.de

A quick search of Sheffield trademarks didn't turn up any seagulls...

Wow. An actual seagull mark. I guess the bucket of chips ("fries") has been worn away over time.

You don't have to translate Bubba, I know what chips are.

    (Bubba means buddy or friend)
