Wooden Try Plane Refurbishment. (completed)
Planes rear tote was removed and the original finish on the planes stock dressed back to spec.
Shortened the top height of the wedge by 1/2", reshaped the top of the damaged iron and sharpened to an 0.5mm camber, and re-blackened the soft laminate.
Repaired damage to the rear tote.
Replaced the missing front strike block.
Applied 3 coats of Danish Oil, 3 coats of Garnet Shellac, then worked the surface over with a cutting paste, before buffing to a soft sheen.
Tested the Try Planes performance out by flat dressing 2 sides of a rough sawn Oregon board. Excellent results.
Note; dry powder tints were used within the under coats to restore some age to the woods patina.
