I thought this might be interesting on the subject of finding a market for small scale production today.
This company is not fully unplugged, but the spirit is there I believe.
They are servicing a niche market - role-playing gamers, reaching them very successfully online.
They were seeking $10,000 of sales and have received pledges for $350,000 worth.

Oh my they are some fancy prices.
$300 to $1300 for a little set of drawers 30cm tall? US $ I assume.
