Hi Noons - i am curious to know, are you the proud owner of a new Sherwood 10" Hybrid Cabinet saw?

How did you find the rip fence on this unit? It appears to be mostly made from steel, except for the fence itself which appears to be totally aluminum. Did you find it to be rigid and rock solid (i.e any deflection at the back of the saw table under pressure)?

Picked one up on Friday. Got it all setup yesterday evening.

Impressed with the fence. It's rock solid when locked down. I can't detect any deflection when pushing on it.
The aluminium extrusion face is not dead on flat but it's pretty close. I may well install a sacrificial face to it. But I'm happy with it at this stage.

I can't give a full review of the unit yet as I'm unable to turn it on!
For some reason, it came with a 15amp plug, even though the motor is rated for 9.5amps.

Im going to call timbecon tomorrow to discuss options. I don't have 15amp outlets in my garage and am not going to get one installed anytime soon.
The saw was not advertised as a 15amp machine and even the manual says its 9.5amp at 230v.

Hopefully it was just a stuff up at the factory and it can be resolved quickly.

I will update this thread after I call them tomorrow.

Also I think there is something wrong with the mobile base I purchased from them. The 360degree castors can't rotate 360degrees as they hit the mounting bracket on the base. I'm hoping there is a solution for this also as I'm unable to move the machine backwards as it stands - basically pointless. I need to be able to reverse the machine out of the spot I love it into after use.

I know about those, however it wasn't advertised as being 15amp so I shouldn't have to pay anything to get it rectified. If it had been advertised as 15amp I'd likely not have bought it.
Even the manual says 9.5amp.

I'm sure it'll get sorted though. I'm 100% positive it's not 15amp. The motor is rated at 9.5amp.

Ok, so as I suspected, it was a stuff up during manufacturing.
It should be a 10amp plug but some of the machines in the latest batch have been given a 15amp plug.

I've been told to either cut off the 15amp plug and put a 10amp plug on, or if I feel uncomfortable doing that, I can get a sparky in to do it and then send the bill off to Timbecon.

Still working out how to fix the mobile base. I may have to take the base into Timbecon for inspection - if I can get the saw off it!

Have been meaning to update the thread, but it's been a crazy week!

After sorting out the 15a plug issue, I managed to get the saw up and running
First impressions when turning it on.. It's very quiet. A lot quieter than my other old hybrid saw.

Quality of the extensions wings is good. Nicely ground and flat.
Main table is flat but has a few small finishing marks. Nothing critical, just a finishing issue.

Blade height adjustments are super smooth, same with angle adjustments also.

Blade to mitre slot alignment was perfect from factory. Fence is rock solid. Alignment was easy enough and slides smoothly along the rails.

The front rail on the far right side has some small paint bubbles/burs, but again, it's easily resolved with some sand paper, but it doesn't bother me and doesn't effect the function of the fence.

The left mitre slot is slightly less shallow than the right and the bundled mitre guide sits slightly more proud and therefor rocks a little left to right.

I don't use the mitre guide, so no real issue for me. The mitre guide bar can be sanded flat so it sits flush. This is likely just a quality control issue.

For $1600 (on special) I think it's probably the best value going around. Especially in WA.

If over east, and can pick up a Harvey for $1800 I would go for that as finish is probably better.

Would I buy it again?... Probably.
Am I happy with it?... Yes.

After having a chat with the guys at Timbecon about the mitre slot issue, they have sent off a request to the manufacturer to get me a new table top, and getting them to check the machined quality of the surfaces before shipping.

Fits your price range. The table is all solid cast iron and what I saw looked well assembled. No idea of how noisy it is but I am going back to have a closer look as I think it opens up more opportunities than my current TS.

Great advice! Wonder if that voids your warranty besides being illegal!

As long as he saves the email from Timbercon, I think they would have a hard time claiming the warrantee is void. As for changing the plug over, yes it is illegal but how are they going to know that a sparkly didn't change the plug?

It's a 1500w motor, so only 6.25a.

You could argue that changing the plug wouldn't void warranty anyway. They would have to prove it was the cause of the warranty issue.

How's everything going with your saw? Interested to hear your opinions now that you've had it a while and hopefully resolved the early issues. I'm looking at investing in a table saw for my workshop in the coming months but Perth seems to be a wasteland in the second hand market (my usual go-to). Looked at some new saws on display at Hare and Forbes but for the price they looked horrible so maybe I should pop into Timbecon for a look around.

Shame there's no Harvey distributors in Perth, after looking around they seem like they'd be worth the extra money if I could buy one local.
