Default 2 questions about Metabo & DeWalt table saws

    Good morning everybody,

Please help me if you know how to solve it.

First question about Metabo table saw. I bought it from Sydney Tools 5 years ago and it's out of warranty now. Yesterday it refused to turn on. I tried to turn it on from different outlets but it did not help. Then I loaded it into the car and took it to the Metabo Service Department in Scoresby, where I used to take broken machines earlier.
They refused to help and warehouse workers sent me to all 4 sides. The service department is closed, the head office is empty and there is no one to talk to. Here is such a service. I drove home and tried to turn on the saw again. To my surprise, it turned on. So the motor is in order and most likely there is a wire loose somewhere. But I'm not an electrician and I don't know where to look for this problem. This will most likely happen on any given day if the problem is not identified now. Can you tell me where in Melbourne there is a workshop that could help me with this?

And the second question is regarding the DeWalt table saw that I bought in Bunnings about 5-6 years ago. It was my mistake because the saw did not have a dust port. I then thought that I could do without it because it was my first table saw in my life. After that I contacted DeWalt and asked if they had this dust port for this particular saw. Unfortunately, it is intended for work on a construction site in the open air and this port is not required. Then I ordered a dust port from them for a similar DeWalt saw in hopes of modifying it for my saw. Unfortunately, it fits 90%, but I'm not capable of more. I asked DeWalt to modify this port for my saw and I will pay for their work. But they didn't even want to puzzle over such problems because their task is to sell.
Do you know some service where they could look and maybe install this dust port?

Thanks and have a nice day !

I go to the Power Tool Specialist in Carlton, They do the work on the premises, and you can talk to the guys.

United Tools in Bayswater still have a workshop on site. They might be a bit closer to you and could help with your Metabo.

    Hi,

I remember you buying the metabo. Wonder if you might give a long term review of Metabo TS vs Dewalt TS ? The ‘which portable table saw’ question comes up frequently and often these two are mentioned

Thanks for support. I left the Metabo saw at United Tools near my home. Before that, I visited a couple more services, but no one wanted to do this. United Tools told me that they were busy and would start working on my saw next week.
Over the past years, I have only used the Metabo saw and the Dewalt has been sitting on the shelf. Now I took it out and connected it to the dust collector from Metabo. For this I had to go to Carba-Tec and they helped me to find pipe connections.
For comparison, Metabo's power seems to be 1250 watts and Dewalt's is 1850 watts. The Metabo dust collector has a capacity of 1400 watts. That is, paired with DeWalt, they have a total of 3250 watts. I had to buy a new powerhouse as my previous one was insufficient for such power.

I would not recommend the Metabo to anyone as this saw has a terrible fence. One advantage is that it can be easily carried. In addition, it broke down in less than 5 years.
I connected it in series to the cyclone and dust collector. But in my opinion, they capture no more than 70% of the dust, and the rest of the dust flies around.
I managed to adapt all these new ones to the Dewalt port. I connected another very powerful Fein dust collector to it. But the exhaust from this port is almost invisible. That is, at the same time, two dust collectors poke dust from Dewalt at the same time, and the dust flies around!?
My opinion Dewalt is more accurate and easier to use. Most likely when I pick up Metabo from the repair, I will put it on the shelf.

I also want to point out that the Dewalt dust collector has two filters that get clogged with very average use every 2-3 days and even earlier. I called DeWalt and they advised me to wash them with water. No way! These guys can only sell and their tech support is sub-zero. I bought a women's hairbrush and it cleans the filters without problems. Then I suck up the rest of the dust with a vacuum cleaner. And so I use them for 5 years. But if you have to replace them after washing with water they cost $270 a pair at Sydney Tools.
