Which Saw Blade?

Hi Guys
I have just taken delivery of the GPW 10/12 Table Saw. So far very impressed both with the unit and service from Gary.. However the saw is supplied minus a blade.

I want a good quality 10" combination blade ( can't afford different blades for rip and crosscut). I have done some research on blades but not sure which way to go. I have looked (on the web) at the (US) Infinity Tools Combo Max ATB + 1, and though the concept appeals - the price does'nt ( they quoted me USD50.00 postage). I have looked at Stus' "Battle of the Blades" blog and he seems to like the Linbide Combination (same concept as the Infinity) but still in excess of $100.00. The only alternative I can find at a cheaper price is CMT Blades (about $60.00), I am not considering the budget priced blades available at the Big Green Shed.. As a weekend warrior I can't afford big money for the blade, but neither do I want to compromise my amateur efforts by using an inferior blade. Any advice on which way to go, which blade to buy would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same saw and made sure that I gott the best blade irrespective of prices. If you can't afford the best one now then you should save up, otherwise you will be replacing whatever you buy now with another in the future. Your saw will take a 12" blade and it will be able to cut through whatever you throw at it. I bought a 12" Flai U combination blade and have cut through 100mm hardwood. As long as you watch your feed rates it is fine. Although expensive (about $150.00) the finish off the blade is exceptional. If you buy a cheap blade it is akin to buying a high performance car and running it on 91 octane fuel.

I bought a freud combo for my powermatic and really like it. The off the blade cut is really smooth.

Infinity Tools are really good to order from though - shipping can be a bit rich, but savings more than recoup.... I ordered 5 or 6 blades at once last year, shipping was only $70..... The blades are really good too..... (especially their negative rake drop saw blades)....

I have this saw. When you put the 12 inch blade on it what did you do about the riving knife. Do you still use the standard one that comes with the machine?

You can still use the standard riving knife with a 12" blade, just adjust it a little higher and backwards. However, I made a zero clearance insert out of that white stuff breadboards are made of, you can buy untextured sheets from Carbatec, and used a microjig splitter.

Thanks for the link - the LU84M is the same concept as the Linbide and the price is pretty good - is this what you use or did you get the 60 tooth? Freud seem to have a good reputation - I have also looked at the Diablo Combination ( available at Bunnies), however, it is a thin kerf and I have some misgivings about the possibility of blade flex in a very thin plate, plus the issue of having to source or make a new riving knife.

In that case I will get a 12 inch blade. I have a few 10 inch but 12 would be nice.
