Bosch Reaxx Table Saw
Interesting article on the Bosch Reaxx table saw.
Bosch's new Reaxx Table Saw can detect human flesh | Digital Trends
Looks like it may give Sawstop a run for its money.

It's interesting to see Bosch releasing the Reaxx Saw at the same time that Bosch is the victim of Patent Infringement Legal Action from SawStop.........
Manufacturer of the Finest Quality Off-Cuts.

I love the irony that Sawstop were the ones who tried to railroad everyone into having this type of safety system on their saw (at least in the litigation-friendly US of A), thinking that they would have the entire market to their own very profitable product, only to have Bosch come along with this....
Personally I hope that Bosch win out in the legal action, and this finger-saving technology is thereby made available to a whole bunch more people who couldn't afford Sawstop's fancy prices. Lesson from this? "Be careful what you wish for"

In their speil Bosch state that a named person came up with the idea of running a small electrical charge through the blade to detect flesh contact. I would suggest that the full story is that both Saw Stop and Bosch have acquired licences for this aspect. If that is the case then Saw Stop won't have a leg to stand on. The rest of the Bosch technology is vastly different from Saw Stop in operation. And much better at first view. My 2c worth.

That's very cool.
There's another vid that shows it happening (at a trade show):

Looks like the sound of the shot would give you more of a start than the touch of the blade.
Should appeal to the USA market, sounding like a gunshot an' all......

I'm not going to comment on Sawstop's prices, but Bosch are demonstrating a Jobsite saw, which according ro US reports will be priced at around USD $1500. Coincidentally, this is around the same cost as Sawstop's Job site saw.
I think the more likely outcome will be the demise of the sub AUD $2000 saw (table or otherwise)regards from Alberta, Canada

I think that there will still be a market for the $1k-ish contractor saws regardless of what happens with the Reaxx in the Australian market. Unless it becomes law to sell the 'safe' product (highly doubtful), manufacturers will still have alternatives for the budget conscious or risk losing a sale altogether. Do you think that bosch will discontinue their other models of table saw once the reaxx hits the market?
The thing I find most amusing with the Reaxx is that they say after 25 activations, it should be sent back to Bosch for calibration. If you've (even on site with multiple employees) triggered the safety brake on a saw upwards of 25 times, you might want to re-evaluate your operating procedures a bit!
I was eyeing off the new dewalt jobsite saw for a while, but ended up getting the saw stop. Thankfully I didn't quite pay full rrp but even if I had I would have been happy with it. Yes, the dewalt has a bigger rip capacity but I liked the look of the quality of the saw stop better. Now that I've spent a little time dialing it in, I'm getting <.05mm variation over a 1200mm cut which is plenty good enough for me. The saw stop also includes a pretty sweet gravity rise stand, which is a $450 extra with bosch. The head honcho at saw stop may be a self righteous twat with some (ok most) of his outrageous statements, but they do make a bloody good product.
