Calling All Hammer Slider Owners
I use my rip fence as a measured stop when using the Fritz & Franz method to rip on the sliding table. I set the rip fence to the width I want (I have fitted a Wixey DRO to it) then using the F&F jig I rip the piece of timber. When doing that I pull the rip fence back so it is clear of the blade and the timber is not between the blade and the fence as it gets cut. This means there is a long overhang of the rip fence and with the round bar it can fall backwards if I don't tighten it enough. I want to buy a rip fence and cut it up into shorter lengths and I wonder if there is anyone out there who would be interested in sharing the cost and having a short length themselves. Reply here or PM me if you wish, Felder have the fence in stock and it is about $120 and we should get a good number out of it to reduce the cost to under $20 each at a rough guess. If enough users are interested we can buy more than one fence if needed.

Chris, I have a Hammer slider (a 2005 model I think, that I bought second-hand) and I've been puzzling over how to rip long pieces accurately, and repeatedly rip the same width pieces. This Fritz & Franz thing is brilliant. I will need to make one now. I think I understand what you mean about have a short section of fence, but I want to check my saw before I opt in for your proposal. I can't do that until the weekend. I will check this weekend and reply here.

Bob, the F&F method is the single best thing to happen to sliders since they were invented I reckon. There is a commercial version that you could use for ideas if you want. The link shows it being used on a Martin slider...

I have an 05 B3L and would be interested in a short fence.
Cheers

Gidday again
I reckon, after looking at my machine, that the short fence would need to be 250mm long, maybe a kerf less would be ok, to properly engage both clamping points. Therefor the yield based on a 1m fence would be 4 units. IMO.
That being said, I would still be very interested.
Cheers

I just had a look at mine and I think cutting it on a band saw will give me a finished size of about 248 to 249mm at a guess. I will take some photos of my fence tomorrow and post them to make sure the cross section is the same. My fence sliding head has a clamping bar that the fence slides over so the length on it is not critical. If I cut them to 250 mine will fit whatever the shortfall is.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's the F&F ripping method?
BTW, that's an Altendorf in the video (and it's CNC as well... drool), not a Martin...

Here are my photos, they look the same though I will confirm it with Felder. You can see how the fence overhangs at the rear when it is used as a rip stop measurement. With the Wixey added it is repeatable at any time and a very fast way to work.

Yep. Looks the same to me. Checking would be a smart move. I agree that 248 /249 would work. Yours seems to be a later model. Mine does not have the centre bearing point, only the two outer ones. But the system is the same.
Cheers

Tom, sorry to report no because I have been slack as well as busy in the last week or so. Given a chance and a spare few hours I will go out to Felder tomorrow and get a fence, they had one in stock because I saw it last time I was out there. I usually order stuff and get it by mail but I don't think that is a good idea with an aluminium extrusion.
