Carbatec 10" cabinet saw
Hi, i currently have a Jet 10" contractor saw and I'm very happy with it. I now see that carbatec have thier cabinet saw on sale for $1999. My question is would this be so much better than my Jet contractor saw keeping in mind it is still in good nic.
Thanks for the feedback,
Peter

Here's my personal take on it... you're happy with your Jet saw, and that indicates to me you have the required power in that saw to do everything you want with it (unless you can't, and haven't said).
You haven't said what you're making or using this for, and that does have a bearing on the decision anyone would come to - it would be helpful to share that with us if you can.
The unit you're looking at is liable to have better dust extraction being a cabinet saw as opposed to a contractor saw - so that's one plus.
I can't lay my hands on the specs for the Jet unit, but we know the Carbatec unit is 1875W - you can compare that number to the Jet unit to see how their power compares (though it shouldn't be an issue, you're not reporting that your existing saw is struggling).
You haven't said whether you will sell your existing saw as part of the finance side of things - none of our business really, but I'm going to assume you're planning on doing so. I'm also going to assume you're going to ask for no more than $1000 for it.
Call me silly, but this means you're buying better (and don't let BobL hear me say this!) dust extraction for $1000.
I'm not saying don't do it - I am asking what other use you would have for $1000 that would add to your workshop capabilities (that you need/want) - do you have a bandsaw? A jointer? A thicknesser?
Just throwing out ideas, and hopefully you are willing and can share more info on what you're doing, and wanting to do, to aid us in better advice.

Wow, thanks for that midnight man. I really appreciate the input. I mainly do things like jewellery box’s and coffee table size furniture. I have all the equipment I need it is just that it’s on sale and thought is it time to upgrade.
I have read various articles some say that cabinet saws are “more accurate “ which I guess I don’t fully understand how. Better dust extraction is a known plus and a bit more power but are they really so much better that I will be in heaven after changing from a contractor saw to a cabinet saw.
Thanks again, Peter

I dont think I can say anything different than Midnight Man has. I have given this some thought myself over the years as I have a Delta contractors saw. Apart from the dust extraction side I can't see any advantage of making the swap. If I were going to move on then I would likely go for a 12'' saw and more HP but that means having a 15 amp socket wired in so more dollars on top of the upgrade.
I did box in the open back of my saw (As well can be done around the motor bracket and belt) to improve the dust extraction a bit. It's better than it was but it still aint perfect.
Regards
John
