Thread: Carbatec 250mm Cabinet Saw - Feedback?

The belt system may be due to the power rating of the motor. The Harvey motor is a 3hp motor, that will need to have good drive.

The Hi - Lo fence would be useful for panel work and anything where you don't want a large edge on the fence. It is interchangeable from high to low. You will need to check that the scale is still accurate in both positions ie zero is still zero.

The arbor sizes reflect the hp rating and that the higher powered saw is starting to target the professional market. With regards to saw blades, buy good ones and don't look back.

I think you are right Graham, I have the old version of this saw (CTH-110L) which is a 3hp model and it has 3 belts

Thanks for the responses guys. Sort of hijacked the thread. But it's still on point.

I stopped in at carbatec today. I didnt measure the fence in both positions but it gave me the impression it would no longer be zero'd. Seemed higher than wider so when rotated it sticks out further in the low position.. if someone could confirm that would be good. I do like the idea of the HDPE faces. But as far as the two saws are concerned this is a rub as I'd prob get the hilo anyway.

Wrt to the laguna platinum.. they're sales pitch is the "What sets this machine apart is the saw carriage travelling via dovetail ways.". Is this the same for both of these saws too? I'm not sure what it means.

I'm also happy to use CMT blades. So I think I'll just go with my original intent.. the harvey. Carbatec ones are nice and they offered a good price but it's still comparable. The extra half hp and triple belt (reduces slippage apparently) could only be considered positive to set them apart.

I was in a very similar position to you a few days ago, looking at the exact same saws and a similar sherwood saw from timbecon.

The Harvey saw had some good reviews and was made sense price wise as well so bought one from BBTA (https://www.bbta.com.au/harvey-hw110lge-30-table-saw/) but through their ebay site so I got the 10% from the ebay voucher which brought the total down from 2199 down to about 1980 plus delivery cost.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the fence on the harvey looks very similar to the hi lo fence from carbatec.

I know this is not under your consideration but just bought a Hare and Forbes ST254 https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/W486 which seems to be a similar machine to the Carbatec one.

Had it for just over a week now and am really happy with it. I like the way that the fence locks at both ends of the table eliminating any chance of movement at the end of a rip. Has 3hp but only needs 10amp. Not sure what the "quick release" on the carbatec for the riving knife is like but this only requires 2 nuts to be loosened to take it off. Have given it a work out with some hardwood and it didn't even blink. Another consideration was the full cabinet so that the dust extractor works more efficiently.
I couldn't be more happy actually I am thrilled with what I have been able to do with it, but that just might be because I have been working with a circular saw and hand saws for all the these years! I marvel at the skill of cabinet makers in the years before they had machinery of any description and it was all done by hand makes me feel inadequate that I need/want the fancy stuff. Mind you the time saved is amazing and the accuracy of the cuts now is just a dream.

I too am interested in the same saw you ordered. You mentioned an ebay voucher bringing down price by 10%. How did you come about this (I'm not very educated about eBay, I have to admit)? I too would look at putting in an order at that price. Has your saw arrived yet?

Def the exact same saw as the Carbatec, just different paint job. I would be contacting your local Carbatec dealer first so see if they will price match. They did have these on special for the EOFY sale at $1999. May be better off with after sales support if a warranty need arises?

And Scott, nice job with the riving knifes! If i hadn't already spent an hour with the angle grinder to bang one out i would have taken u up on the offer for those spares.

They're not the same as the carbatec. I think the carbatec one is same as the laguna f3. And the laguna platinum is the same as the harvey.

Hi Ashley, the 10% off ebay is just a promotion that ebay does once in a while. Most of the time, there will be a 5% off, sometimes there are 15% or 20% off offers as well but pretty rare. You just need to keep an eye out when it happens. Or you can check ozbargain.com.au to see if there are any upcoming sales for ebay.

Hi Steve, message me your email address and I can send you the CAD files for the blade guard and the riving knife, or I still have 5 of each already cut. Just cover postage and I could send you a set if you'd like (I got 6 of each cut ages ago, as it was going to cost the same for 6 as for 1 . I think it was only $80 total at the time, but was happy to pay that for 1, seemed like a good price for laser cut steel (something I can't do at home).
