    Default Carbatec CTJ-650 contractor Saw

Has anyone had any first hand experience with the Carbatec CTJ-650 contractor saw? I would like to know if it is left or right hand tilt and if there are any issues with alignment and set up. Also would I be able to get it into the back of a station wagon from Carbatec?

Its full cast iron top makes this look like a pretty good unit. What do people think of this for the money and what else is available?

    Thanks
    Nick

I have the saw, its blade tilts to the right. I dont think you will get it in the back of a station wagon. I picked it up in a four door ute and it was tight squeeze. Getting it off was interesting I heartily recommend you get a mate to help you.
The alignment from the factory was good. The fence takes a bit of fiddling to get perfect. I haven't got it perfect yet but am a little anal that way.
The miter gauge is a little basic and will need tweaking to fit snugly.
Other than the above I am happy with the saw. I also got a mobile stand for it as it goes in a two car garage. My wife still has hopes that one day she will be able to park in there again.
The blade it comes with is ok for ripping, anything else I would get another blade. One of the big positives is it can take a dado set, which is really handy.

According to the specs available in the specifications on their website, the box is 1200 x 670 x 540mm and weights 110 kgs, so that should give you an idea.

That was my first saw when I started out. I bought the floor model from carbatec, took the legs off as one assembly, took the extension wings off the main table then everything managed to fit nicely in the my company astra hatch back... with a big box of dust collection accessories and a dusty too! So yes, I think you will be quite safe in a station wagon, especially as a new one comes even more dissasembled that what mine did.

Also, yes it is a right tils setup. The only main issue I had with the unit was that it was a bit noisy for my likings, until I read, and did, this Fixing the wobble in a table saw arbor

After addressing the wobble in the arbour flange as directed in the article ^^^ and spending some good time alligning the motor and belt, it ran very quiet, almost to the point where the blade ripping through the air made more noise than the actual saw assembly itself!

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts on this saw. The not left tilt is a bit of a deal breaker for me so I guess I will keep saving.

To go from the 650 to a left tilt saw is a HUGE increase in cost! What are you needing left tilt for, is it essential?

I needed to rip a few panels on my 650 on the angle (obviously panel on the left of the blade on a right tilt is the safest option), most were ok as they only needed to be 300mm wide. The wider ones however obviously were to big to fit on that side of the saw. I just un-bolted the fence rails and moved them to the left a few holes, then sat the fence on the left of the blade, basically a mirror image of a left tilt. Might be an idea if it is not needed all the time.
