I assume the sparky has checked out the capacitors?
Over time they ge and break down - just normal wear and tear.

The other possibility is if you continually even slightly overloaded it, this can create a hot spot in the motor windings and eventually it shorts out.

Could also be a manufacturing problem but is just lasted this long before showing up.

This saw also sat in a shipping container for 3-4 years that was supposed to be water proof weather that has any bearing on the situation I doubt it, but its there in the back of my mind.

Carbatec replacement $2490 if I have to go that way, but there must be a motor that would work in its place

They have a shop and work shop at Dudley Park, not much they don't know, not much they can't supply, I have been using them for years, my electrician mate put me on to them.

what a strange day Ive had
still waiting to hear back from the electrician about rewind and around 11am thought damn wish that table saw was working I really need to cut this....
hit the start button....WOWEE it runs turn of on several times and the thing is purring like the neighbours wife after a good night between the sheets.
All the time there is no blade mounted. then mounted blade and ran for 45 minutes non stop.

I am happy. so reassemble all the top back on, tighten everything down, try it again , #!%*&#) back to square 1 what the hell.
Then sparkie rings $800 for rewind, told him where to put it.

Will try another sparkie, I am still not convinced its the motor...

That seems a lot for a 240V 3HP rewind, I have a 3 phase 2 speed motor (special winding with tap which makes it run at 2 speeds with the correct switch) which cost me $800. If the motor was running earlier today with no burning smell, then seems like it could be something else, I often hard wire a motor straight to a plug, to eliminate whether the switch is faulty, or if you have a tester you could check if there if power coming out of the switch when in the On position to the motor

I agree with price, but I suspect that being stuck the way I am and him thinking I dont have any information or hints (from wonderful members on this forum ) he has me by the short and curlies.
Told him I could get a full new motor for less, he got quite stroppy

Doesn't sound like a very helpful sparky, if you were closer I would have a look at if for you , I take it you don't have any electrical testers or are really in to that type of thing.

true story ...last time I played with electrical stuff, we had been married 3 weeks (that was 45 years ago) dear beloved wanted a short extension cord, I knew there was a long cable under spare bed....didnt know it was plugged in.
    sit on foam mattress
grab power cord and wire cutters
    snip BANG deathly silence
little voice around the corner....'are you OK hon?'

she made me feel reel good shortly after.
so there are some things I leave to those who know more than me.

Right understood, it sounds like a double Bang would not be good for you these days, but OK after 3 weeks of marriage

Disconnect from the power open up the switch/contactor whatever you have blow the dust out with air, ( common problem with woodworking machines ) with power still DICONNECTED check switch is operating correctly. Just for your information rewinds usually cost considerably more that a replacement motor.
