Default Should I change arbor size from 30 to 25mm

So i recently got my Hafco 12' TS up and running, after my 3 phase upgrade. Now I'm just trying to sort out a few little issues, ie guard and blades/arbor size.

I was about to buy a blade the other day and though I would just check the bore size. Turns out it's 30mm or 1-1/8th inches which seems to be a slightly odd size.

My question is this, what do I do about the arbor size? I've emailed a supplier in Brisbane to see if i can get a 25mm or 1 inch arbor off the shelf. Failing that I could have the arbor turned down to the correct size or just bite the bullet and seek out some more expensive blades with the 30mm bore.

Any suggestions or advice would be a great help.

I believe you need an arbor bushing. You can step up and put a larger arbor blade onto a smaller arbor saw, but I don't think you can go the other way.

Carbatec has them for a few bucks.

Arbor bushing - basically a fitted washer slightly thinner than the blade.
Recently bought a 3 pack of TC tipped blade for half price as the bushings were missing from the packing - 10 minutes on the lathe to turn a bushing and they are good to go.
Cheaper than getting a blade re-ground!

It's not 100% clear but it sounds like his arbor is 30 mm, so bushings are not going to help.

To get a 25 mm bore blade onto a 30mm arbor you will need a negative bush.
Probably get one at the same store that sells flux capacitor.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. Bob is correct the arbor on my saw currently is 30mm. Blades with a 30mm bore seem harder to find and more expensive hence why I'm possibly looking to replace the arbor or have it machined down to 25mm.

The correct size for that saw is 30mm, I thought all the Asian 12" saws were the same but maybe not. If they could get away with a smaller arbor I am sure they would as it must cost at least a dollar more to produce the 30mm version.

Just had a quick look at Carbatec catalogue and most of the CMT blades seem to be 30mm bore

I think older machines has arbour smaller than 30mm. like 28-29mm? cant remember the exact units in imperial. newer machines are mostly with 30mm arbour..

Any good saw sharpening service should be able to increase the bore of any saw blade to 30mm. The hassle of changing the arbour would be huge. Much easier to rebore a few blades.

I think that 30mm and 25mm are European standards.....5/8" the US standard. You are better to just get blades with 30mm bore than trying to machine a larger bore onto a smaller bored blade....won't be the same once you muck around with a factory balanced blade.

I have a 12" saw that was built in the 1990's in Taiwan (yes, the other China!). It has a 5/8" arbor. Amongst my collection of blades for it are 5/8", 25mm, 1" and 30mm bores. One of the real pluses with a 5/8th arbor is the ability to fit a wide range of dado sets. As the 5/8th arbor is an American standard it would seem that they are even more keen to save a dollar then the 'Asians'.
Some of the members here seem to have a real set against equipment produced in Asia and never miss a chance to make a negative comment. What they fail to recognise is that 75% of forum members would not have any of these machines if they were not produced in Asia, simply because they would not be able to afford/justify the expense of the alternatives. Lots of us would still be getting by with a hand held circular saw and a jigsaw! China is able to supply good quality machines, perhaps not as good as some European equipment, but good none the less. It all comes down to what you're prepared or able to pay.
Mattress, I thought your initial post was perfectly clear. And, no, I wouldn't be changing the arbor size unless there is something far more valuable to be gained than what you are indicating.
    Just my 2 cents worth.

Just out of interest 30mm is just over 1 and 23/128", which is a lot bigger than 1 and 1/8"!

I just had a quick look at prices for CMT blades on the Carbatec website and from what I see, the prices do non vary according to the bore size. Prices seem to be more related to the number of teeth.
