    Default Coronet Major/Minor Motor problems/relpacement

    Hi

hope someone can help me. My father has a Coronet combination machine (I think it's a Major) He purchased it new in 1972. The motor has failed and requires a rewind. The motor is a red Brook 1HP 2800RPM (with dual 5/8" shafts). We was quoted $600 for a motor rewind. Does anyone know where I can source a replacement motor or something like it ?

thanks to anyone who can assist - Paul.

You can chance a new secondhand one cheaply or a quality new one. You'd still be looking at $300-$350 though depending on brand and quality again.
I have also seen some cheap Chinese ones advertised on ebay.
Mind you a friend bought one of these three years ago and it is still going great guns and it runs 8 hrs a day , 6 days a week.

    hi Stewie
thanks for the reponse. I am having trouble finding one - even on ebay. The dual 5/8" shaft seems to be uncommon.

I found someone in the UK that deals in Coronet parts. Pyatt Woodworking
They advised that "the motors are now obselete as they were made under license for Coronet who finished in 1986." They suggested rewinding.

    thanks - Paul.

When you say it is a Brook, does that possibly mean it is a Brook Crompton motor?

I have a Coronet Major combination machine. The motor spindle and pulleys have been retained from failed motor and a new single drive motor added underneath. Works fine.
