Durden Pacemaker height adjustment
G'day.
I have recently acquired an old Durden Pacemaker combination machine. I find that the table height adjustment is not working. The wheel is very stiff, and just seems to go around without moving the table which appears to be in the fully lowered position.
I cannot work out how to dismantle it so I can examine and sort it out. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have one of these, and sometimes get the same issue. There is a toothed quadrant attached to the table, that engages with a worm gear on the height adjust wheel. If the table goes too low, then the teeth actually disengage with the worm gear and there is no more height adjustment available. I find that when that happens, it is possible just to manually lift the table a bit, and it can then reengage with the mechanism and work well.
As for dismantling, there are some sheet metal guards around the top of the tool. From memory they are simply screwed to the table, and ride up and down with it. They are pretty easy to remove, but most easy when the table is at the top of it's range. As they lower, they move inside some other sheet pieces, and so the higher it is, the easier to remove. Once you get it raised, then take off the guards and give it a good clean and lubrication inside.
Good luckThe other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

It is also possible for the quadrant to slip sideways off the worm gear if the alignment bolts have moved.
It is easier to remove the sheet metal surround if you fully remove the height adjustment wheel and locking lever.
Will try and get an exploded parts diagram for you - that might help.
