Durden SP 10/600 planer blade size ?
Hi,
I have been given a Durden Pacemaker Home Woodworker combination 10" saw / 6" planer. I think it is a model SP 10/600.
I want to get some new planer blades, but the handbook does not mention what size blades to use.
The blades fitted measure 6" x 13/16" x 1/8". this seems to be a non standard size.
I think 6" x 3/4" x 1/8" blades would be the closest standard blades ?
Anybody know what the correct blades size is ? And perhaps where to buy HSS and carbide tipped blades.
Also can any body confirm that this is a model SP 10/600.
Regards Steve.

I just bought a UP 10-600 made in 1976 , looks similar to yours but a later model.
The slots for the blades in the cutter head are about 22mm deap and it takes 3 @ 150
X25 X3mm Carbatec sell them. Hercus took Durden over and were selling manuals on
ebay for the UP 10-600. nice little machines, enjoy phil

Hi Pommyphil
I have a download of the UP 10-600 manual, and they use 6" x 1" x 1/8" blades.
But I don't think these would fit this machine. My blades are 21mm tall, and if I tried 1" (25mm) blades I think they would strike the front and rear planer tables, at the moment my blades have only 1 or 2mm clearance.
Regards Steve.

Hi Steve Yea, it may be a different cutter head, On mine, on the outboard end of the cutter head I can just see the end of the slot and the bottom of the cutter. about 5mm
between, but my cutters are worn down a couple of mill. If yours are narrower have a look at the double sided 318mm ones they sell for the benchtop thicknessers, you may be able to chop them down. I bought a pair of Ryobi 18% Tungsten for about $30
at Bunnings recently. They're about 20mm wide. Phil

Hi,
I feel really silly now.
The blades required are 6" x 1" x 1/8".
I failed to notice just how much the original blades had been resharpened, there was a 5mm gap between the rear of the blade and the bottom of the mounting slots in cutter head.
Regards Steve.
