Festool bought SawStop
Well i came across this this morning,
SawStop to be Acquired by Festool Parent Company!
It'll be interesting to see if they plan on licensing the saw brake technology for others and also if they incorporate it into their portable power tools.

Does this mean a 6000% price hike is imminent?

Even Festool couldn't make the SS any more expensive.

I can't imagine that they would bump the price up to much, as i feel that they are quite pricy currently.
Any more price rise, then looking at a Hammer saw becomes more attractive.
I wouldn't be surprised if the owners of Festool, start thinking about another company to buy.
Felder group would be a guess, as adding stationary machines would add to their wood machinery range.
Also, implementing the saw stop brake saftey features into a European made machine capable of industrial work could prove to be a game changer for work health and safety.

They are broadening
First the Shaper Router - https://shapertools.com/ and now this.
Hardly surprising. With the patent on the SS its INCONCEIVABLE that one of the big brands didnt try to offer a YYUUUGGGEEE cheque to SS. HUGE. Seriously HUGE.
The bizdevs at Festool are smart and the other very very very very dumb....
Its an absolute no brainer.

Wow, that shaper router amazing machine, id like to know how much the tracking/visual tape is..
but id love one of these, it would be a handy tool to have, and i wish id never seen this
I can see Festools thinking with the saw stop purchase, those patents will come handy.
I could see the EU pushing in the near future for safer conditions in the Work Force, Schools and Technical colleges.
Very smart play, even smarter if they pick up Felder or partner up with them to produce, panel saws, band saws, jointers with this saw stop technology.

Apparently the patents on the SS start ending in the nearish future but not all of them as they were staged over a period of time. Festool as a rule do not publish their business intentions and plans they just do it. Bosch got a huge back hander from the US courts over their version which surprised a lot of people but then the SS boss was a patent attorney so that is not surprising.

the SS patents are due to run out soon, so i would imagine that Festool apply for and would get an extension.
I was surprised that Bosch got bent over, from what i understand is that there design is better than SS.
But America is America.

I would be happy to pay a few hundred dollars (maybe up to $300/$500?) premium for a saw with this tech, all else being equal, if i was spending around $5k for a saw, but that's about it. I always wondered how much of the saw stop price was due to the safety feature and how much due to the rest of the saw. I can definitely see the motivation to pay a large premium for this in a work/school setting though; that's where the money would be for festool to push this feature imo.
