Hammer C3-31 vs A3-31/K3
Hi Guys,
i'm new to the forum so go easy on me if a make any unmentionable mistakes.
I'm setting up a new workshop, initially it was to be 6m x 6m , and I was limited to a combi, the local dealers over here(NZ),Jacks, were raving on about the Robland , which retails here for NZ$14000 +gst , however, after doing a bit of research on the net,I started to have doubts,
I contacted the local Felder dealership (Machines'R us), who are selling the C3-31 for NZ$10500+gst, (I do like the idea that the Hammer are made in the Felder plant). So was all ready to plump for the C3-31, when the workshop space potentially has expanded to 12m x 6m!!!! (its a trade off with my better half), so now i have twice as much space and the specter is raised of getting the A3-31(NZ$4300) and the K3 (NZ$6000), this still leaves me with no Spindle Moulder or Morticer.
this is my first decent workshop, my previous work was done at a local community who had ancient Wadkins from the '40's, so I have no experience on a combi machine. Any comments welcome.

I have a minimax cu300 smart in a 7x5m shed, it does all i ask for , I am very happy with it.
If I had a 6x12m shed i would seperate the jointer/thicknesser and saw so I think your onto a good thing.
As far as shaper goes, they are awesome machines to have, but setup and the tooling costs means I use my router table 99.9% of the time.
On the morticer front, I have one and havent really used it since getting a domino.

Albert (from Auckland) recently looked at Felder and ended up picking up a Robland NX410 from Jacks, he wrote an initial review here:

If you want a spindle moulder you could get a B3 rather than K3. A B3 perform with powerfeed is on my "buy when space and power permits" list.

The C3-31 doesn't come with the morticer standard - its a $1000 option
the K3 and B3 machines are far better units than the compromised C3 - although the B3 will run you 4-6k more.
Options ARE expensive
Accessories ARE expensive
my B3 arrives in October
