Laguna F2 vs SawStop
Hi guys,
I've decided to retire my Robland combination machine as I've kind of out grown it. I'm a boxmaker and looking for a tablesaw that is accurate and reliable and will hopefully last decades.
So far I'm tossing up between the SawStop Contractor model and the new Laguna F2.
To be honest, I find the safety feature of the SawStop a bit of a turn off (ha!) but it's not a deal killer. We have one of these down at the local Woodcraft Guild and they are a fine saw. I do like the look of the Laguna but havn't ever seen one. Both saws would fit (just) in my workshop.
For me the absolute must-haves are a solid, accurate fence that doesn't wobble or move and a solid, flat deck. The blade rise and fall and tilt has to be smooth and adjustable to the half millimetre and really anything else is much less important.
Does anyone have a view on this or can suggest another brand I should look at?
I'm really grateful for your advice, thanks heaps in advance.
Cheers
Warwick

I recall a discussion about a year or so ago where the member (DomAU?) was tossing up between Laguna and Harvey (maybe this one). As I recall the Harvey "just" got the nod.
For another $315 the Harvey has fully 71% more power and 4300rpm compared to 3450rpm (although Laguna says arbor speed is 45rpm - and it can't be different to the teeth rpm.....)
I know you're doing boxes primarily, and even a 1hp saw can cut 10mm timber, but there would surely be plenty of times when more power is useful (even for shed fitouts etc). I guess I'm just of the opinion that a TS should be at least 2½hp for Aussie timber.

I just read elsewhere that the new line of carbatec saws is also based off the laguna/harvey/grizzly model. Maybe take a look at them for me being in Perth the carbatec like will probably win out

ThSawStop has everything you are asking for, the rail and fence is better when you go for the 36" or 52" options.
Consider too the new Carbatec tablesaws, they are new to the market, and have some good features, are well made and nice to use.

If you want accuracy, have you considered pairing your table saw of choice with an Incra TS system? You gain accuracy and repeatability (though not sure if that's important to you).
Buy your table saw with the cheapest/no fence (Carbatec can sell you any SawStop with no fence if you wish - I did this when buying mine, and it saves a little bit of the cost).

Hmmm....those Carbatec pics make me wonder if they are also getting their saws from the same factory that manufactures for Harvey and Laguna?
If you can't beat 'em, etc.
