Laguna fusion thermal overload switch tripping.
I've had my saw for a few months now and occasionally the switch is sometimes activated but generally a good clean out and vacuum and restting the switch would get the saw not tripping. Yesterday I did a lot of work and the saw performed faultlessly. Today I did one cut and I couldn't run the saw without it tripping. I did the usual clean out but frustratingly it kept tripping. So I did some more vacuuming and decided to leave it overnight, let the motor cool down and see how it goes in the morning.
Do other Laguna users have this happen? How often? Any not have this happened at all? Any ways to prevent this? Do I have a problem? It is under warranty and I have contacted the seller but I was curious if others have had the odd tripping of that switch

What TOL are you talking about Barri?
Is it on the motor itself or separate from the motor in a starter? Those were the droids I was looking for.

On the outside of the motor there is a push down switch. It is nearly always down. When the motor gets too hot that switch goes from pushed down to up. You then have to press it down to get the saw going again.

Have you tried running it without the blade connected, i.e. free running.

It sounds like a faulty motor winding. Let us know how you get on with the warranty.

Tried again this morning and the same thing. Also tried it without the blade. Runs for a few seconds then stops. I've tried it on a 20A circuit but same thing. It should run on a standard 10A circuit and has for the last few months although this happened a couple of times during that time but I wasn't worried as cleaning fixed it. Interestingly the lights dim when the motor turns on so I think you're right, faulty wiring. Bummer!!
EDIT ... Left it for 4 hours and just for the heck it I turned it on and it WORKED!! I was happy I was able to finish my current project but I'm nervous whenever I turn it on now. The manual talks about low voltage could cause this but I'm not convinced this is the problem. I contacted the place I bought it (Woodworking Warehouse) but they're not answering their phones today for some reason.

Replace that overload circuit breaker. I had a similar situation once with my drum sander. I replaced the breaker with the equivalent and its been working fine since (years).

If the Laguna Fusion is still under warranty, I strongly suggest that you ring Gregory Machinery in Brisbane to discuss the fault with them. With that sort of problem, it seems that their normal practice is to supply the replacement part, and if electrical connections are involved, they usually authorise a local Electrician to install the part.
If it still under warranty, and you start changing components yourself (such as changing the overload switch), then they may be able to claim that you've voided the warranty. Even if the machine is out of warranty, I'd still recommend speaking to Gregory Machinery, as they may cover a partial warranty by, for instance, supplying the parts as warranty replacements.

Have already done that Roy. The wheels are in motion. They said exactly what you said about electricians etc and they also mentioned in the early days they had a few faulty circuit breaker switches. Just awaiting their next move.
Incidentally it looks like the Woodworking Warehouse in Melbourne has shut down. Disappointing.

I have the Laguna Fusion, and the motor was replaced under warranty shortly after I bought it. Very occasionally the thermal overload switch on the new motor trips, however there is no pattern to it. I was not told of problems with the thermal switches in the early days. They had a problem with the on / off switches being wired back to front in the factory, but that was rectified.
Glennaycock, did you replace the circuit breaker on the motor, or in the power switch board ?
I will be interested to see the solution. Please keep us posted.

Geevesmac, did you have the same problem as me (too many times the motor trips - nearly every day) or was the motor faulty? What were the symptoms? Gregory's said it was probably the switch and if so they would send me a new one but I have to provide my own electrician to install it. Its a shame that they don't pay the electricians fee given its under warranty but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Greg, I contacted Gregories last week and was told they would consult with their electrician to confirm its the switch or the motor and get back to me with a view of sending me a replacement. I hadn't heard from them so I rang again earlier this week and got the same advice and still haven't heard from them. This is very frustrating as I have an unusable saw with no idea on when this will be sorted. The other concern is if its the motor then does that mean the whole top has to come off? Also will any electrician know how to replace the overload switch?

I have recently been having a similar issue on my Woodfast TS250 sliding table saw, but I have noticed it is only occuring when I run one particular blade on the saw. Change blades and operate the saw on similar tasks no issues, change back to the thin kerf fine tooth blade it trips the TOL much earlier than it would with the coarser tooth blade. The load on the saw changes with the same task but different blade style.
