Hi, My understanding is there is very little difference between the saws in the various models of Laguna and Harvey. The sales pitch about the Platinum dovetail saw was that in the saws trunion instead of a square sided groove there was a dovetail shaped groove. That is supposed to be better , adjustable like a lathes gibbs and prevent vibration in some situations. I regularly use an older model Laguna table saw at the group I attend. It is not the dovetail version but I can not fault it. When I retired about 5 years ago I bought a laguna Fusion/hybrid saw and have always regretted not spending the extra for a real saw like the laguna cabinet saw. You are a very lucky boy enjoy it.

The Laguna cabinet saw that I use regularly has a riving knife mounted on the trunion so it rises and falls with the blade and it has a quick release feature to get it out of the way for blade changes. Are you sure you are talking about the same saw?
