Luna W59 had to go....heartbroken, need help...
We are moving and the Luna would not be able to fit in the new garage...so I`m heartbroken as it had to go. Now I need a portable saw bench and really don`t like what I see. I`ll only want to spend less that $1k.....I want one that I can wheel in and out quite easily. Any suggestions. Considering the Bosch GTS 10J with stand. There is a mob in Tuggerah, Central coast, NSW that sell a machine (10") but unless you go down there you have no idea what it`s like. Again...any suggestions appreciated....thanks.

thanks...
thanks Chook. I have had a quick look at a couple of saws. The Bosch GTS 10J and the cheaper Makita. Neither really appeal but at a pinch I`d go for the Bosch. I hadn`t considered the Carbatek...might try to get a look at one.
As for the Luna.....he`s gone.........just about gave it away.....but couldn`t afford to be stuck with it in the new smaller garage....daym.

The contractor saws from Carbatec have a proper cast iron top. Some of the cheaper saws don't have the best of fences but they can be upgraded in time to something decent (eg an align a rip fence) and that is not possible on the sorts of saws you mention. Most contractor saws use an induction motor which drives the blade via a pulley. And this is a much quieter system than a direct drive bush motor.
That said if your budget can stretch by a few hundred dollars you can get a really good cabinet saw from GPW for about $1375. They don't take up any more room than any of the other saws you are thinking aboutMy age is still less than my number of posts

thanks for the info. You are right...I`m not too keen on a cheap saw...just want one to do the job. Pretty hard after having the Luna. Being a retired woodwork teacher, I`m used to a good saw bench and it will be hard if I go for an aluminium topped one. I`ll look at the carba tec and the GPW.

Are you doing sheet work? If so a good circular saw and rail system might be a worthwhile investment. The Festool saws are very popular and leave an edge finish similar to a scribing blade saw.
Perhaps a mix of the two types would minimise losing the best qualities of the Luna.

I`d buy the carba tec ---650, but I think it may be too big and heavy to fit in a small double car garage. Regarding sheet work...I will do a little bit...melamine etc but 90% of work will be solid timber...ie, picture framing, small cabinetwork as a retired fiddler/DIY fool .
Has anyone got the Bosch 10J saw????..... and what do you think of it.
I just had a good look at the GPW site and their saw. Not bad. Wonder what delivery costs would be like???? anyone know...

ah, yeah, you would be correct there and I will contact him about it. The carba tec is looking more like it might be the one though. I`m not sure it has the cast iron table though. Not too big and I can go to Sydney to pick it up. Hopefully there is a roller/castor type base for it so I can wheel it out when needed. More homework to do yet.
Then there is the SB-12 at Hare and Forbes.....looks alright too.....anyone got one?
