Doing my IREX with Bob Tait which works well because I fly out of Redcliffe. Should be in the books now to be honest!

Congratulations, I wouldn't worry about a few weeks, mine sat at Felder for nine months before I found the opportunity to get it. Working night shift does make life difficult sometimes.

The fun will begin soon enough.

I done a few flights up that way quite a few years back, some really great scenery from the air(I was only VFR). But I guess under the hood it all looks the same. Haven't flown in about 6 years now, sometimes I really miss it, but I now work on the other side of the mic.

I am guessing you work for Sydney ATC? I got checked at Camden last year and got a solid intro to Sydney airspace! Little different from BNE and MEL! They are pretty strict about offloading your code once outside of controlled airspace! I love flying the SEQ coast, but Sydney is pretty impressive also. If you are ever up this way again sing out and I will take you for a run!

BTW, only got about 5 ours of time under the hood, but looking forward to getting some solid skills in IMC. The main reason for doing my IR is not IMC by the way, is more so I can actually fly IFR under the watchful eye of ATC!

I just got a setup document email through to me. Have to say I am most impressed. I have bough a few new machines now, and this is by far the best documentation I have ever received. It shows you how to accurately adjust every single aspect of the machine in really good detail. Of course I am yet to use it, so time will tell!!

Got a few hours in the shed today. Enough to get the extensions tables leveled, the rip fence installed and the outrigger set up.

The machine requires a 20A power supply which I don't currently have. The shed sub board is good for it though. I could have dodged it up with 15A but I ran out of time anyway. I will order some 20A plugs and sockets tomorrow and try get some wiring to the machine. Given my lack of domestic wiring expertise (instrument fitter by trade) I think I will do my usual trick and get my domestic sparky mate to check my work is inline with current rules!

Anyway, given I cant do any test cuts, my testing so far has been done with feeler gauges, Col Clenton squares and dial gauge. Out of the box with no adjustment its already more accurate than my old woodman saw.

Using this saw clearly requires a totally different mindset to the old cabinet saw, but I cant wait to have a go.

I just need paid work to go away so I can play with it!!

I will be down that way again soon, maybe at the end of April. Hoping to get rechecked in one of Curtis Aviation's G1000 C182's. I would love to come have a chat because as per all Class D airports around Australia the procedures are different!

The versatility of a slider is something you can't grasp until you use one for a while. The only must have jig I use is the Fritz and Franz to make things even better, it is so quick and easy to use and is really the answer to using a slider.

I cant wait to start using it! Just got word that I will be heading down to Sydney this weekend. I am guessing I will be there for a few months so no play time for me unfortunately. Planning to install a 20A circuit tomorrow, so perhaps I will get a little play before I head off! That jig looks pretty handy, I noticed that the crosscut fences stop well short of the blade, and when I changed it from 90 to 45 degrees I realised why!

Shane (guessing thats your name), I will chase you down when I am in Sydney if thats ok. I would like to get a bit of a run down on Camden and Bankstown Class D procedures. Happy to shout you a coffee or lunch for your time! Will PM you when I am in Sydney

Im quite happy to look after that Hammer for you, i moved into my new workshop and its a little empty in the saw department

Once you have a slider, its hard to go back, its so handy, when i did my cabinetmaking apprenticeship, i got stuck on the panel saw for about 9 months and it was a great experience.

I've tried to use a cabinet saw since, but for me its like starting a fire with sticks compared to using a lighter...
