Perform 250 Sliding Table Saw
As I stated in the Table Saw Comparison post, on Friday arvo I went to Carba-Tec and I traded in my old bench saw with sliding table on one of their new Perform 250 Sliding Table saw benches. I got $360 trade in for the old unit, I was happy with as I was thinking around the $400 mark.
<O</O
At this stage I’ve assembled the new unit to having all bench areas installed including the sliding table and tailing out bench. The unit comes with 2 fixed bench extensions on the right hand side. Its bench area is bloody huge… no more gut busting work for me in handling sheet material.
<O</O
There is an oval shaped sawdust collection chute around the saw blade, which is connected via a bit of flexible pipe to the outlet connection at the back of the bench. As I’m tightening the clamp around the flexible pipe onto this oval shaped chute the flexible pipe splits on the roll seam (those of you who have swimming pool hoses will know what I mean), I thought “great, that renders it next to useless”, and removed the pipe and chucked it you know where. I had a feeling the chute around the blade would not be staying on also.
Before I went too far in the assembly I wanted to see if a 12” saw blade would fit and with a bit of jiggery pockery it does. The sawdust chute had to be removed, which I can live that as the old bench never had this feature, and should I so desire to put it on the Riving Knife will need a slight modification (spose some of you will cringe at this). I just need to slightly extend the slot in the infill plate around the blade.
These Perform units are currently at $1549.00 till the end of this month. Be interesting to see that they are after this date.

Good to hear from you Rod
I'm keen to hear your thoughts as you put it into use as it's one of the most promising value for money units in my price range.
Looks like an interesting roller unit for the slider .. what's the go with that?
I'll be watchingRamps

Rod, where are the pictures? Remember, it didn't happen without pictures
Sounds like a good unit, wonder why only C/tec WA sells them?

Ramps,
The roller/track consists of 2 round solid steel rails top and bottom with an aluminium section infill. The aluminium section has 3 channels on the underside. The middle channel is used for locking whilst the other 2 are supporting guides. The whole mechanism can be slid forward (or backward) to accommodate a 1200 wide sheet, this was one of the units features that appealed to me.
Last night I was fine tuning the whole sliding set-up. I didn't have to touch the brackets/rollers under the sliding table its self, measured from the edge of the sliding table to the first channel in the saw bench top to which it ran dead parallel.
My old bench had 4 concentric (I think that’s what they're called) bearings on the sliding table, they were very finicky to adjust.

Thanks Rod
I'm trying to make time in one of my trips to Perth (that aren't on Sat afternoon or Sunday) to get into CT for a good look at this saw.
That sliding setup looks a bit different from any others on the market at that price.Ramps
