Does anybody out there have one of these saws, I need to get a riving knife for it perhaps if someone has one they might be able to trace it for me so I could make one. Thanks in advance for any input

Me personally I wouldn't worry about one.

    Hi,

I have the MBS300 which is very similar. Carbatec sydney quoted me $28 for a replacement about 6 months ago (I ground my original one down so it would be lower than the blade - as it was higher than the blade at full height . This allows me to do captive cuts for thicker timbers; My saw allows a 98mm height cut so I can do just under 20cm resaw.)

you could make one yourself - just make sure the leading edge profile is circular with a radius the same as your largest blade and make sure the mounting holes align with your saw's mounting points. the back profile doesnt matter at all really so long as your blade raise / fall mechanism doesnt work on a pivot - if it does you wanna make sure the back profile dosent "hump" above the blade at full extension - I suggest a sharks fin profile in this case.

The only other thing I qwould recommend is that the riving knife has a thinner kerf than your blade.

no riving knife or an alternative splitter is a ludicrous suggestion. recommending not having one is plain stupid and bloody dangerous. especially on a 3hp machine with a depth of cut circa 100mm. Imagine you are ripping a 100mm beam of ironbark and as you cut past the radius of your blade your iron bark beam closes up due to the internal stresses in the grain pattern being released as you cut through the middle of your timber - the thing will be hurtled into your face at the same speed of rotation of your saw.

someone will suggest you dont wear glasses and muffs next.
