    Default Sherwood swbs-1254 review

Hi first time poster long time lurker
just wondering if anyone has had anything to do with the sherwood swbs-1254, https://www.timbecon.com.au/sawing/t...n-worksite-saw .I would love to be able to get a cabinet saw but unfortunately I have to share the work shop with the Mrs car and storage so don't really have the room. My main fear is if the saw is like the old ryobi that I am fighting with atm, the fence is crap the mitre gauge might as well not be there and the blade is not in alignment with the table top. I'm only just starting out and don't want to throw money away and the second hand market here in Perth is almost nonexistent.
    thanks in advance Trent

    Hi Trent
These type of worksite saws can do a pretty good job. The Bosch, dewalt and makita are the popular quality brands ... in that order too I suspect

If you are leaving it in the shed then forget the wheel stand and build a table on wheels with a fold down outfeed table ... You will need an outfeed table anyway.

Your experience with a low end machine should be sufficient to send you higher in the market and then you can enjoy the experience of better quality machines. I just don't know if I would rate Sherwood as in the Bosch class, or in the Ryobi class ... Perhaps somewhere in between ... I'd be interested in what others can report

    regards

    Rob

I don't know the saw but when reading the specs. The first thing that turned me off was the non standard mitre slot.

I went through this same struggle so I know what you're going through. I don't have the space for a cabinet saw plus I wanted to stretch the budget. I would take a look at the dewalt if I were you, I bought the 7491 for $1100, it is a 2000w saw with a pinion gear fence that is awesome. It also has a baby brother that you can get at Bunnings, I think it is the 845 and it sells for $849. https://www.bunnings.com.au/dewalt-1...e-saw_p6260316

I am am very happy with the dewalt 7491, it lives on my storage shelf when not in use, the fence works extremely accurately (I used to have a GMC so having an accurate fence was non existent) it's powerful and can take a dado set (one of the reasons I took the 7491 over the smaller dewalt)

The makita fence was a joke and I think the Bosch had some flex too, the Dewalt is rack and pinion on both sides of the fence and I have had no trouble, I set the fence using the guide, and the cut is always accurate to the mm.

    Hope this helps.

Hi sorry for the slow reply guys
Ben I to have been looking at the dewalt online and like what I have seen the only thing that makes me hesitate is the price and if the saw is 15 amp or 10 amp as we are in a rental and I don't want to have to get 15 amp sockets put in. I'm hoping to be able to get a firm figure on my budget from the 'boss' soon and want to get the most bang for my buck.

    Hi Trent.

I am wondering what table saw you went for in the end?

I am keen on getting one myself and am wondering if you bought the sherwood (searching for the sherwood table saw brought me to this thread)

    Hi axam
as of yet i have not got a new saw but after getting to the wood show last weekend and getting a chance to see a few different models beside each other I have decided to save my pennies a little longer and go for the dewalt Dwe-7491xe as I loved rhe fact that the fence was so easy to set and square as well as that the machine was small enough to pack away on my shelving unit. That it also takes dado blades was a bonus

thanks for that. It's hard!! I am not sure if I should save my pennies myself. it is so way over budget.. I did initially only consider spending $200 which then balloned to $650.

Adding another $200 to that. is very ouchy

do you think it is worth it over the Bosch?

It is hard but in the end I think I can wait it out and pester the "boss" for the extra lol. It will be worth the wait to be able to set ur fence and know that that's where it will stay when you start your cut and as for the Bosch they are a nice machine I was leaning that direction myself until I had a chance to look at the saws side by side. If Bosch Aus ever get around to realeasing the new reaxx saw and at a decent price then I might consider.
