Sherwood table saw motor help
Hi. I’m in a bit of a pickle and don’t know where to go next. My Sherwood table saw of 6 years has stopped working and the motor has gone open circuit and needs to be rewound. I’ve been told it’ll cost $1000 to fix and the whole saw when I bought it didn’t cost that much more.
Is there a place I can go to get a custom motor made or something? I really don’t know which way to turn.
Unfortunately Sherwood have stopped making my particular saw and I can’t buy a replacement.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

If it is belt drive it shouldn't be too hard to find another motor to fit. $1000 is ridiculous!

I thought manufacturers were required to provide spare parts for 7 years after discontinuing a piece of equipment?

I've never been able get spare Sherwood parts. The last lot of parts I was after were a pair of kip lever handles for 10" thicknesser. At the time the thicknesser was 10 years old but the levers were the same as those on the then currently model. Lots of phone calls and emails and promises etc. In the end I remade the fence and bough some different (better) Kip lever handles.
Post a photo of the motor and let's see how tricky it would be to fit a standard replacement motor.

I've attached a few images here.

IT looks similar to the Carbatec motor in its fixings. The carnatic is 2.5hp while mine is 3hp. Not sure if that makes much of a difference.
The spare part motor for the carnatic one cost $820. Which is nearly half of a brand new panel saw.
It's just a real pain where I know the motor didn't cost much to make in china and the repair (being a re-wind) seems to be more than a replacement. Not by much though.
Won't be buying Sherwood again.

Well Chinese don't give the least of s. Parts are unobtainable! they literally couldn't give a . Once sold -your issue. Actually have a quite good large bandsaw 3hp motor -lots of cast iron etc. Had issues that needed immediate attention before even 1st use However adequate apart from these - nothing complex. Parts are non-existent Has no brand for starters. need a minor component to be made for me - well NO parts! probably can sell for more than I bought it for 10 years ago -Was a good buy. Still a good buy.

Are you sure it's the windings and not the centrifugal start switch or one of the caps? In any case, I'd keep looking for a rewinder who doesn't want to rip you off.

Yeah, I've taken it to two different people now and they have both said the same thing. Needs a re-wind.
