Default Shipping my new IWL PS315

So I took advantage of the recent Deal of the Century, sic, and got a PS315 from the guys at IWoodLike. So far so good. But now I need to organise shipping the saw from SCM Sydney in Kings Park to either Perth or Bunbury WA. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I know just enough about logistics to know that the key information is as follows: 460kg, 1310x990x1085 plus the table and overhead guard. So basically an oversize pallet plus a few other items totalling about 500kg.

I'd appreciate any help I can get in this area. Obviously I can and will call a number of companies for quotes. But guidance and prior experience count for a lot, so I'm asking! I'd appreciate any help I can get.

    Thanks in advance - David.

I can't help much, but you do realise that it's going the wrong way? I did a quick quote calculation on e-go with pickup in Kings Park and delivery to a Bunbury depot and the cost was $1,730. Hopefully you'll be able to find something more economical than that! Nice saw though.

Maybe SCM will offer a better alternative?

I highly recommend that you specify the saw to be shipped on a pallet. I shipped a crate of tools (~400Kg) on a pallet from Melbourne all the way to my garage in regional NZ. One guy with a hydraulic hand pallet truck was able to load at one end and unload at the other end. As a result, the cost was less than 1K (inclusive of customs clearance).

Just a quick update, I'm currently talking with SCM about using their inter-store transfer arrangements to get the saw to Perth. We'll see if they're willing to do it, and if so how much they charge me, but it should be the most economical way.

Just a quick update: I have found a carrier who will ship the 500kg pallet from Sydney to Perth for $480. Not bad. GKR Transport, who are the people SCM use, are terrific to deal with.

That is quite impressive. I had a delivery from Sydney to the Hunter Valley of 3 machines via StarTrack for a total of around 750Kg - they did rock up with a tailgate lift though. Cost was $660, distance was less, but machinery times 3 I guess accounts for some of the difference.

Check for package damage when you get it and take any photos needed and if it is damaged I would ring the Sydney office before accepting it. The reality is that it is the last one and may have to accept it unless it is in terrible condition.

    Yeah GKR are good .

I just did a big table transported on three pallets in length joined together, and all parts wrapped and boxed up on that.
From South Gippsland Vic to Bunburry freight depot WA .
Then a couple of hours south from there.
2855 kilometers and four truck change overs. Somewhere close to 500 KG .
From Melbourne to Perth was roughly $1200 .

Perth to Bunbury was roughly $300 with Bunbury freight service. They were good as well.
They had an option to use a Hiab ? a crane to lift the load off at the clients end. The clients carriers took the load from Bunbury though and that wasn't needed.

When I was searching for who to use I rang a big machinery dealer in Perth who I bought a tenoner off a few years ago .
I asked who he sent it with and he said "We use GKR now."
I went with his recommendation .

It all works on Pallets . My tenoner was one pallet space from Perth and cost between 5 and $600
the last table was three pallets for $1200 roughly , I dont remember exactly.
Yours at 1310 long is only just over one so good luck . you may get charged at One , most probably its two though ?

Nothing like a good recommendation! I think the level of performance or the reputation of trucking company's varies over time form good to bad .

I use Gilders Transport as well with Machinery. Pretty good prices.

A happily-ever-after shot I took while stopped for a coffee on the way home - no visible damage except that the rather dodgily built bottom pallet lost two of six feet somewhere along the way. GKR are highly recommended.

After uncrating, I found there was absolutely no damage to the saw. There is, needless to say, some assembly required. I plan to document the process, but let me start by saying that this saw is the most overbuilt thing I have ever seen. Parts of the steel casing are made from what appears at first glance to be 8mm steel, while unimportant parts are 1.6mm or perhaps 2. The front bar for the rip fence is a _solid_ steel bar. I could probably stand on the overhead guard support after installing it.
