Handheld saws cut from the underside of the workpiece towards the saw, functionally the dust collection on the TS55 is more like an under table shroud, and the TS55 has only a 160mm diameter blade meaning the tip speed and resulting air speed is lower than a typical table saw. In use the cut depth is commonly set to the material thickness or just over, so the blade gullets stay in the kerf rather than being free to throw dust everywhere. I don't know how good they are at capturing fine dust, but they do ok for the stuff you can see.

That begs the question- how does the dust extraction on a circular saw like the Festool TS55 work? I believe that saw leaves negligible dust when connected to a Festool vac. And that's with a 27mm hose.

Hi Group,
I'm new to this forum stuff - my first post - ever. I'm a budding woodworker and just setting up my shop. If I can build it myself, I'd rather do it that way instead of purchasing it. So like Chris in the first post, I'm looking for a copy of the Shop Notes plans for the table saw guard / dust collector. Any one out there care to forward me a copy? Just wondering if anyone has the Shopnotes blade guard plans posted? I'm not sure what I want to do but I don't want to purchase plans to just look them over before deciding if I want to build an overarm guard or just purchase one from Grizzly or TSI. It sure seems like a lot of individuals have spent the same amount of money on building one as just purchasing one. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great, thanks.
