Suspended Motor Mount Broken.
Hi Gang,
The the suspended mounting plate on my old table saw has given up the ghost!
Surely this is a common occurrence on this style of saw, has anyone had any experiences either;
1. Sourcing a new plate,
1. Welding the plate (the plates not cast)
or fabricating a new part.
I'm no welder so I be paying someone to do the work. Also Id be wary of repair as it might be inclined to happen again.

Bit hard to see but looks like there is two welds on the thicker piece that didn't adhere to the plate. If that is the case that would explain the failure on the plate.
Whereabouts in Melb are you, happy to reweld and reinforce for you for a carton of beerCheers

The original looks like a cast iron break to me, and even if it is not cast, the bracket is almost certainly cast.
If a new plain steel support plate is used this will still require a cast iron weld.
If not done correctly it will easily break again.
Presumably DJ will know to preheat the work and use nickel welding rods.
An alternative would be a to bend a steel plate to suit and bolt it to the bracket.

This is the same as my contractor saw. The plate is not cast it's just a steel plate about 2.5mm thick with a rolled edge, which makes it look thicker in the photo than it actually is. It should be easy enough to weld a couple of 12mm wide x 6mm thick x ,say, 50mm long reinforcing pieces to the bottom of each side of the plate, then weld the cracked top and side of the plate back together. Any competent handyman welder should be able to do it once you've removed the plate from the cast iron bracket that it's mounted to.
When you reinstall the cast iron mounting on the saw make sure you keep it far enough out so that the rear of the repaired plate clears the saw frame throughout its travel.
