    Default Table Saw Blade

I'm after a new blade for my table saw. I have a Bosch GTS10 saw (10inch)
I mainly use my table saw for ripping and resawing. I was looking at this blade.

Any feedback would be greatly received

I have a couple of different combo blades for my JET tablesaw - they are good enough for a variety of applications that I don't own any dedicated ripping or crosscut blades.

One thing I would consider if I were you is going for a thinner kerf combo blade, especially for a lower powered saw. The best blade I have by far is the Infinity Combo Max in a thin kerf version (from Northwood). There is a review of the blade here:

OnlineToolReviews.com - Infinity Nickel Armor Circular Saw Blades Review

He rates them better than CMT, to give you some idea. Its certainly the best combo blade I've ever used.

The other combo blade I have is a Freud (not sure exactly which model) in a standard kerf. Frankly I wasn''t that impressed with it compared to the Infinity. The Freud combo is good on sheet material, melamine, etc., but the Infinity Combo Max leaves it for dead on hardwood.

    Thanks for the link.

Is resawing classified as cross cutting or ripping? Or neither?
Should I be going for a combo blade?

    Thanks for the reply -
I like the one you mentioned as it's thin - perfect for resawing

Look at the Flai blades, especially the U blade. Haven't formally reviewed it yet, but it is exceptional to say the least.

On a recent rip cut, I didn't bother sanding the result or anything - went straight to finishing, it was that smooth straight off the blade. Crosscut was as impressive.

I've never tried an Infinity - for some reason they didn't want that blade going head-to-head with the others I was/am reviewing.

Woodworking Freud blades and CMT blades are much of a muchness. The Freud Industrial with the ICE finish is a different level of quality/finish, as is the Flai. But check out the review where I go into a lot more detail (including photos) if you are interested in my actual findings.

I've also heard the Flai blades are very good indeed.....but when I looked at the pricing it made the Infinity blades look cheap

The price for a Flai U blade is getting on for twice the price of an Infinity Combo Max. Looking at the specs reminded me of another detail you'll want to check - the Flai blades generally have a 30mm hole, so might need press-in adapters to make it fit the arbor on your saw. The Infinity blades are generally designed to fit a 5/8" arbor directly, which is what my JET saw has.

If you want to go up the range a bit in the Infinity blades, this one is getting closer to the price of the Flai U blade:

Expect to spend >$100 to get the very best combo blade, but they really are worth the money IMHO.

I use the Frued in the Triton 2000WC. I swear by them. They go on special every now and then. I bought the last one from VEK for less than $50. Keep watching Norwood Tools too.

groeneaj - when you start resawing reasonable thicknesses of hardwood on a smallish saw (like my JET ProShop) the thin kerf blade is a BIG help.

I wouldn't even attempt to use my Freud combo blade for that job; anything over about 2" thick material really slows it down.

My Infinity Combo Max stays on the saw at all times these days, and I only change to the Freud combo if I''m going to be doing a lot of work with sheet materials like birch ply. My third blade (the JET ripping blade that came with the saw) is never used under any circumstances........unless maybe I decided to cut cheese on my tablesaw

Thanks for your input guys. I looked at the Flai blades, however they are a bit out of my price range.
I like the look of the infinity blade - thin kerf which will be ideal for resawing.
Does anyone know if this would fit straight onto my Bosch GTS10 table saw, or do I need to get something to ensure it fits correctly.

I'll probably end up buying this sometime during the week. Thanks for everyones help once again.

The best mid priced blade i have used for years is the Linbide 336 combination blade. Its an absolute ripper @ around $120.

And i reckon Freud blades are so overrated. They are good for a few weeks then start to go blunt and noisy.

If money isnt an issue then AKE are my all time favorite. Beautiful blades.

I looked up the Bosch GTS10, and according to the website it takes a 254mm blade with 30mm bore. It might be worth checking the arbor before buying a blade to make sure it is actually 30mm.

That means the Infinity blades won't fit. There are ways of making larger holes smaller with press in inserts (although not desirable for the most stable cuts), but I don't know of any way to make a 5/8" hole fit onto a 30mm arbor.

    Judging by the pics here:

    Linbide 336 4+1 Stu's Shed

it looks like that Linbide 336 Combo blade has the 30mm bore that you need. Looks like a very similar design to the Infinity Combo Max with similar performance.

Lignum - can you confirm this? Cheers

Mr Brush, yes the Linbide has a 30mm bore. I have no info on the Infinity but after doing a google image search they look very similar except for the bore.

The difference between normal combo blades and the Linbide/Infinity is they have a rip gullet after every 5th tooth. You get a beautiful cross cut, and because of the large gullet it makes for effortless ripping. The weird part is the noise. They are unusally quiet but have a weird high pitch sound. It takes a bit to get used to.

On a side note, i have three 10" Freud blades, 30mm bore (blunt combos, but very good condition ) that i dont want, and if anyone near Mordialloc, Melbourne wants them for free (preferably 1 each for three different members) can come and get them.

    That's very annoying
Ok - so it will take 10inch blades? but the bore has to be 30mm?
Do I just have to search around for blades with this, or is there a way of searching just for this ?

    Andy it's not that bad.

    The GTS10 does require a 30mm bore.

The bore of a blade can be enlarged by a good saw doctor. In fact I think one of the blades you got with the saw was subject to that process - I may be wrong. Anyway, I have had it done by Chapmans on Powers Road Seven Hills. They did it while I waited and whilst I cant remember exactly what it cost it was very, very reasonable - I think just a few bucks.

    Good luck.
