    Default Table Saw Head Room

So, I've made the mistake of watching 452 hours of YouTube videos with people making table saw benches.

I have a portable Ryobi Saw which I like very much, and would like to build it into a cabinet / bench with a large
flat surface. But... this saw has only 3.5" of space between the blade and the front of the saw.

By the time I get a large piece of plywood up on this saw, there is little room ahead of the wood before I'm cutting.

I'm just curious what others have found to be a good "Forward of the blade" dimension in building a table saw
bench. I realize the further back the blade is, the longer the fence needs to be.

What are your thoughts on this?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Most table saws would be around the 12'' mark. I would not think you need go much further than that as you need to be a comfortable reach to push the work past the blade with a pushstick. For long hard to handle boards I use a roller stand to help the infeed.
    Regards

    Thanks John. On both parts
I will use this as a reference for my build. Makes total sense to me.
